Ben had the fortunate experience of being introduced to CrossFit in the city of its inception, Santa Cruz, California. He started in 2011 at CrossFit Santa Cruz West where many of the coaches had been trained by CrossFit’s founder, Greg Glassman. Ben considered himself in particularly good shape (having just completed 3 months of P90X) and pleaded with the coaches to let him skip their on-ramp program. His first WOD was “Fight Gone Bad,” an infamously difficult CrossFit workout. After a near death experience, Ben knew his life had changed forever and listened to his coaches learning as much as he could.
Fast forward two years and a CrossFit Level 1 Certification later, Ben convinced the owner of Alameda CrossFit to allow him to become the full operator. He spent the next four years building the community and business. After tripling in size and developing a favorable reputation in the area, Ben decided it was time to pass the reins on to his head coach. His next goal was to find the best group of coaches and affiliate around and learn all he could from them. This is how he arrived at CrossFit NYC.
Ben’s mission is to help people build a narrative that inspires them to reach their potential. He particularly enjoys working with people around nutrition, gymnastic skills, body awareness, olympic weightlifting, and energy systems.
