New Strength Classes

Effective Monday, April 28 and Thursday, May 1, we will be adding eight new CrossFit (Strength Only) classes at 28th Street:

  • Monday 6:30 AM
  • Monday 7:45 AM
  • Monday 5:15 PM
  • Monday 6:30 PM

  • Thursday 6:30 AM
  • Thursday 7:45 AM
  • Thursday 5:15 PM
  • Thursday 6:30 PM

These classes will run in the southwest corner, where we currently run Open Gym and Olympic Lifting at other times. They will be coached by Jim McDade in the mornings and Brian DeGennaro in the evenings.

CrossFit (Strength Only) classes will focus strictly on strength training (no cardio, no clock). They will involve primarily four lifts (back squat, press, bench press, deadlift) plus supplemental work. For those who wish to focus strictly on getting stronger there will be a third day of optional programming that can be done during Open Gym hours.

The intent of these classes is to give people a predictable and methodical way to get stronger. Most people will want to incorporate these classes in one of the following ways:

  • As a complete two- or three-day strength training program.
  • As a one- or two-day supplement to CrossFit (Hyrox Metcons). The combination would be a complete strength and conditioning program second to none.
  • As a one-or two-day supplement to the Wednesday and (Saturday at 67th Street) Olympic Lifting WOD’s
  • As a one- or two-day supplement (speak with Brian) to Black Box Barbell
  • As a stand-alone supplement to whatever they are doing (or not doing) outside of CrossFit NYC

CrossFit (Strength Only) WOD’s will not be programmed to be combined with our regular (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) CrossFit WOD’s. For example, it is likely one or both Strength WOD’s will involve squatting, and there is no guarantee that our CrossFit programming will not also involve squatting on a Tuesday or a Friday.

CrossFit (Strength Only) Pricing

  • Requires Strength On-Ramp (one 45-minute private-training session) or familiarity with the basic barbell lifts (back squat, press, deadlift).
  • Included with regular CrossFit memberships at 28th Street at no extra charge. (UWS members who are interested should email [email protected])
  • Available as a ($199) monthly Strength Only membership that includes access to Saturday Open Gym
  • Available on Class Packs
