Temporary Expansion of The Off-Peak Schedule

CrossFit NYC is unique among CrossFit affiliates in offering an extensive off-peak option for our members. It is easiest to define off-peak with a simple rule based strictly on time of day. However, we think we can do better than that–better for our members and better for our operation. Therefore, we will be making some changes that are geared toward off peak demand, as opposed to off peak times. We will also be creating some innovative policies to help people make better and more predictable decisions about their membership options.

Starting in August, we will declare certain classes to be “Off Peak through December 31, 2017” (and these will be clearly labeled in Zen). We may subsequently decide to extend that date, but we will not shorten the temporary off-peak period.
In order to allow people to take advantage of these classes:
  1.  Members will be allowed to convert an unlimited (peak) membership to off-peak, and we will add one day to the current membership for every three days that remain. For example, if you have 3 days (or 3 months)  remaining on an unlimited monthly and wish to convert to off-peak, we will add 1 day (or 1 month) to the duration of that membership.
  2. If you have an off-peak membership, you will have the right to attend a temporary off peak for the duration of that particular membership, even if the temporary off-peak period has expired. For example, if we declare a class off peak through December 31, 2017, and you renew a monthly membership on December 15, you will be allowed to attend the class through January 15. If you renew a 6-month membership on December 15, 2017, you will be able to attend through May 15, 2018 a class that was declared temporarily off peak through December 31, 2017.
The purpose of these changes is to allow people to take maximum advantage of these temporary off-peak classes; and to allow us the flexibility to take a chance with a class that is currently in low demand but may eventually become in high demand. We are hopeful that these changes will allow us to offer an even greater number of classes.
At this time, we are planning to make the following classes temporarily off-peak through December 31, 2017.
  • 28th Street Beginner WOD on MondayTuesday, and Thursday at 6:00 AMWednesday CFE at 6:00 AMFriday All Levels at 6:00 AM
  • 67th Street Beginner WOD on MondayTuesday, and Thursday at 7:00 AMWednesday CFE at 6:50 AMFriday All Levels at 6:50 AM
In addition, as we find that certain off-peak classes are getting crowded, we may declare a date after which these classes will no longer be off peak. At this time we are committing to keeping the following classes off peak only through December 31, 2017 (or until the end each individual’s current off-peak memberships that run past this date) :
  • 28th Street Beginner WOD on MondayTuesday, and Thursday at 5:30 PMWednesday CFE at 5:30Friday All Levels at 5:30 PM
The same rules will apply to Off Peak classes that are being considered for transition to Peak: Members with off-peak memberships will be able to attend those classes through the end of that membership. So, for example, if you renew for six months in December 2017, you will be able to attend the 5:30 PM at 28th Street through May 2018.

Any reason for not including 6:00am ewods? Definitely have noticed lower attendance over the past 6 months. Definitely fewer people in that class each day than wednesdays 6:00am cfe

A change like this is likely to have less impact on existing members behavior than on that of new members. New members are going to head to bWOD’s.

Doesn’t really answer the question if it’s based on demand…
