The CrossFit Open: Results from 15.3

For the first time in the Open, muscle ups was the first movement in 15.3’s 14 minute AMRAP. In years past, if you were a competitor, you would chip away at whatever muscle ups you could at the end of a chipper or AMRAP.  If you could not get to the muscle ups, the other movements might be challenging, but you wouldn’t be subjected to such a harsh penalty for not having this skill. This meant that in the last few years, competitors without muscle ups made it to Regionals, even though the were expected to be competent at this skill.

A clear separation between serious competitors and those hoping to just take part in the Open was established this year on the Leaderboard. This was the workout we heard the most “discussion” about – the reactions were either very positive or very negative.

Regardless of your thoughts about the programming, it was an incredibly memorable workout, because we saw many of our athletes achieve their first ever muscle up. Congratulations to everyone that achieved their first muscle up this year during the Open!
