Special Announcement: 2013 CrossFit Games Open at CFNYC!

The 2013 CrossFit Open will run from Wednesday, March 6 through Sunday, April 7. CrossFit NYC will be an active participant in the Open, both for our members and for members of the CrossFit Community who wish to do one or more Open WOD’s at our affiliate.
On five consecutive Wednesday evenings an Open WOD will be announced. Participants will have until Sunday to do the WOD, have it judged to CrossFit standards, submit the results, and have the results verified. For the duration of the Open, we will be shifting our focus from coaching and training to judging those who participate.

We will initially devote 40 WOD’s to the Open: 15 on Thursday, March 7 (6:00 AM to 9:00 PM), 15 on Friday, March 8 (6:00 AM to 9:00 PM), and 10 on Saturday, March 9 (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Each of these WOD’s will be open only to athletes who have registered to participate in the Open. We will not necessarily be doing the Open WOD’s in our regular classes, though we may. We will only officially judge and verify the scores of those who participate in one of our Open WOD’s. As we see the level of participation, we may add or subtract Open WOD’s during the first week and/or subsequent weeks.

The objective of the Open is to provide true and accurate scores for every athlete who participates, and it is our intent to meet that objective. We will be assigning several of our senior coaches to function as the chief judges during these WOD’s, and we will be calling on our more than 60 CrossFit NYC Level-1-certified members to assist them. We will also ask members of the CrossFit NYC Competition Team to assist in judging non-team members. (Our team members will be judged by our coaches and/or judges from other affiliates). Because we will need several of our coaches to manage and judge, we may cancel some WOD’s, mostly during those hours when there are several WOD’s running. For the first week, we will likely cancel the following WOD’s:

Sara’ s Thursday WOD’s at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, and 10:00 AM
Sully’s Thursday WOD’s at 4:30 PM, 5:45 PM, 6:45 PM, and 7:45 PM
Will’s Friday WOD’s at 5:45 AM, 6:45 AM, 7:45 AM, and 12:15 PM
Kevin’s Friday WOD’s at 3:00 PM, 5: 15 PM, and 6:15 PM, and 7:15 PM

In place of the canceled WOD’s, our coaches will be running Open WOD’s on Thursday and Friday from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. These WOD’s will initially be capped at 12 people (but that may change, depending on the WOD). We will tentatively plan on holding the Open WOD’s in the Southwest Quadrant at 28 Street (Avery’s Quadrant), but that also may change depending on the WOD.

    Is the OPEN for everyone?

    I’ve been doing CF since November. I have greatly increased my skill/strength, and while i can now do some WODs Rx…def not all of them. still worth signing up for the OPEN? (didn’t know how it works if for instance there were things that I can’t do such as HSPU, muscle ups, rope, or certain weight lifting max’s).
