With these changes, we will have weeknight Black Box WOD’s at 26 Street every 30 minutes from 4:45 PM to 7:45 PM (ending 8:45 PM). Please check in on the Third Floor, even if your WOD is on the Fourth Floor.

Of the 193 Beginner and Black Box WOD’s last week, only 6 were full (18 people): Monday 5:45 PM, 6:15 PM, 6:30 PMFriday 6:15 PMSaturday 11:00 AMSunday 12:15 PM

We think this is fairly remarkable. Our members did nearly 2000 WOD’s last week and not one WOD class exceeded 18 members!

Unfortunately, if people register, don’t show and don’t cancel, other members may be left with the impression that they cannot get into the class of their choice. (We had 17 WOD classes that had 18 people registered, but had less than 18 people show.)

The changes we are announcing today are intended to make sure we continue to meet the needs of our members. Although the time and location changes will inconvenience some people–though no class is shifting by more than 15 minutes–these changes are necessary to make sure we can provide the best possible coaching.

We are especially pleased with the changes to the Saturday schedule. Attendance on Saturday has gone up 10% over the last two weeks, yet we had only one of the 16 classes on Saturday fill up.

In sum, we are monitoring attendance very closely, and we are adjusting the schedule to meet the needs of the vast majority of our members. Between now and the end of the year, we expect to add an additional 30 to 40 WOD classes.

One of my favorite things is that classes are available at all hours. Question though: What happened to the old 8pm Kevin class? There is no 8:15 now?

I know the 8 pm was never packed, but there were a slew of us that went very frequently, and same group, bc our schedules prevent us from coming a second earlier. Not having an option later than 8 for a Blackbox WOD really sucks!! This means that if the 7:45 Blackbox wod is full, as it almost always is ( never in my life have I gotten in it), you can only do a beginner 8:15 or 8:30, which is a totally different workout.

      Any thoughts?

      • Hari Singh

If we find that the 7:45 PM is consistently full, we will consider creating an 8:15 PM Black WOD. The record for the past week shows that the 7:45 PM never had 18 people.

A 5am class would be helpful if possible. The doctors and nurses would appreciate it. Thanks

      • Moritz

i agree. the 8pm was really convenient as it was (i) not as crowded, (ii) advanced and (iii) usually the only class i could make due to my work schedule. It would be (im sure others agree) highly appreciated if that would be reinstated

I could not sch into both Friday night btwn 5:30 and 7:00PM nor Saturday btwn 12PM and 1:30PM because Zen Planner showed full classes. Skipped both days when I would have come otherwise. Disappointing to hear non of the classes were actually fully attended. What do you recommend to someone who can’t always reserve more than a couple hours in advance due to work obligations-skip wod’s or just show up even if the class is shown full?

      • Hari Singh

The odds are that if you show up, you will get in, or at worst need to wait 15 to 30 minutes for the next class. This will only become more true as we implement the changes described in this post and then add more classes.

(We are currently looking at adding more classes during the very times you mentioned.)

    • T-Money

Hari, the number of registered members for a class is much more important than the number who actually show up, from our perspective. This is because, like in Andy’s reply to you, people often can’t get into classes because they appear full. If one registered member doesn’t show up, you may count that as a non-full class, but you’d be wrong: other members couldn’t get in, because to them, it was full. So in fact, you say only 6 were full, but I count it as 23 were full, including the ones that had 18 registered but had less than 18 show. This is the figure that should guide your decision-making, in my opinion, not the figure it appears you are using.

(Allison, please delete this comment when the correction is made.)

As of 9:00 PM, there is an error in the scheduling announcement. (Kevin’s classes will be at 5:15 PM, 6:15 PM, and 7:15 PM, not 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM, and 7:30 PM).

Also the announcement should include two new Beginner WOD’s with Avery at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM at 28 Street, Monday through Friday.

The announcement should have read as follows:

    Effective next Monday, October 8:

Weeknight evening (including Friday) Black Box WOD’s with Kevin will be at 5:15 PM, 6:15 PM, and 7:15 PM on the Fourth Floor at 26 Street.

Weeknight evening (including Friday) Black Box WOD’s with Sully will be at the usual time (4:45 PM, 5:45 PM, 6:45 PM, and 7:45 PM) but will move to the Third Floor at 26 Street.

With these changes, we will have weeknight Black Box WOD’s at 26 Street every 30 minutes from 4:45 PM to 7:45 PM (ending 8:45 PM). Please check in on the Third Floor, even if your WOD is on the Fourth Floor.

There will be two new Beginner WOD’s at 28 Street from Monday through Thursday with Avery at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

  • d_simon

Does that mean Avery’s 6:30pm 4th-floor class is no more? :(

    • Hari Singh

Correct. However, Avery is starting a 5:00 PM and a 6:00 PM Beginner class from Monday through Thursday. You can take either of these classes with Avery and just scale to the Black Box version of the WOD, if you like.

      • d_simon

Thanks for the update Hari. You seem to be paying very close attention to attendance metrics—out of curiosity, do you have any sense of the graduation rate from beginner classes to members starting to take black box wods?

        • Hari Singh

Because people self-select, it is difficult to give a precise answer. We estimate that about 30% of the people who regularly attend Beginner WOD’s could switch to Black Box WOD’s, and we estimate that about 10% of the people who regularly attend Black Box WOD’s should be in Beginner WOD’s.

          • reisbaron

We are proud. We are inefficient. WE ARE THE 10%!!!

  • DeeC

what are the WODs for monday and tuesday

    • Hari Singh

It’s now posted beneath this announcement.

  • JDS

why are the Sully classes being moved to 26th street? That is one of the more popular class times and should be in the newer 28th street facility. this is stupid

    • Hari Singh

Several reasons: (1) this makes it easier for people who are doing the Black Box WOD’s to move between classes at HR:45 and HR:15; (2) it enables our more advanced instructors and members to work in a atmosphere where no other classes are going on but their own; (3) it allows us to give our senior instructors their own “classrooms.” (Sully will own the Third Floor during the evenings); (4) it allows us to open up additional WOD space for the Beginner WOD’s; (5) 28 Street was becoming far more crowded that 26 Street; and (6) it is consistent with our long-term objective of opening another facility for our intermediate and advanced members that will be better equipped to handle dropping, etc.

I should add that, in the short term, it also allows us to prescribe Black Box WODs that include running, which is otherwise a real gap in the programming.

        • d_simon

          running stinks!

        • Big Stick

when are we going to have Olympic lifting classes? Rumor has it that it is in the works when a new place opens up. Here’s me hoping.

  • Big Talker

Hi fellow Cross Fitters, a courtesy request: if you are waiting for your class to begin, please try not to walk through WODs in progress. For some reason tonight, everyone wanted to get to the rings while the Big Talker WOD was underway. It is inconsiderate, and dangerous as well. Thanks.

    • Hari Singh

This raises another issue that will be improved as we finish adjusting the schedule. Our goal is to have every coach have his or her own “classroom.”

(Sara and Kevin will have the Fourth Floor at 26 Street. Will and Sully will have the Third Floor. We will soon be assigning the coaches at 28 Street their own WOD areas.)

Coaches will then arrange their classrooms as they see fit, and each classroom will be have sufficient equipment that it will be rare for people to need to leave.
In addition, everyone at 28 Street will all be doing the same WOD, making it that much easier for coaches to coordinate equipment, etc..
