Maplewood, Missouri Firefighter, Ryan Hummert, 22, was killed by sniper fire July 21st 2008 when he stepped off his fire truck responding to a call. He is survived by his parents Andrew and Jackie Hummert. Ryan was responding to one of his first calls as a firefighter when he was killed. From the moment he was shot to the moment his casket was placed in the ground, a firefighter, many times men who never knew him, stood vigil by him.

NOTE from Coach Lisa: “I will be coaching the 9am NYC Endurance running workout this morning (meeting up at 25 W. 26 St.). If it is very cold we can do the warmup stretches and drills inside the Box, then go to Madison Square Park to run. Wear a few layers and warm gloves, etc. so you can delayer if you get too warm.”

    Fun with floor presses this morning, working up to 5 heavy reps – 95#
    Muscle up progressions are always good to work on.
    Then I went for a random 6.5 mile run to Lower Manhattan and back. It was surprisingly warm for such s snowy morning.

  • Went to Brooklyn to visit my buddy Allan who just had a baby, so decided to check out CF South Brooklyn while I was there.

    A. Deadlift – 5 x 185, 3 x 3 x 225, 3 x 245

    B. 3 RFT 35 KB swings (1 pood), 25 situps, 15 pushups – 9:32. 

    This was a really fun WOD, highly recommend it for our box. Best part of the WOD? The introduction:

    “Hi, I’m Kayam and I’m visiting from CFNYC.”

    Ryan:  14:50 with weird “progressions”.  I know its cool to encourage everyone get on the rings and move in the right direction towards muscle ups, but if I had to do this again on my own, I probably would have done c2b pullups and dips, given my [sorry] level of muscle up proficiency.  

    Also played around with the Bear complex and went up to 85#.  Paused in time to catch Will doing doubleunders in his underwear.  Never a dull moment.

    And music request:  Pre-1984 Black Flag.  All the time.
