High Noon Hero WOD Update

This weekend we are doing “Ryan.” Don’t be turned off by the thought of muscle ups! We will have scaling options available and want you to come! Looking forward to 3 full heats, so remember to sign up on Zen Planner if you want to participate.

Five rounds for time of:
7 Muscle-ups
21 Burpees

Each burpee terminates with a jump one foot above max standing reach.

Maplewood, Missouri Firefighter, Ryan Hummert, 22, was killed by sniper fire July 21st 2008 when he stepped off his fire truck responding to a call. He is survived by his parents Andrew and Jackie Hummert. Ryan was responding to one of his first calls as a firefighter when he was killed. From the moment he was shot to the moment his casket was placed in the ground, a firefighter, many times men who never knew him, stood vigil by him.

Come honor Ryan and the men and women like him, who run into the fire.

Here’s what’s on tap for Saturday’s regular WOD classes:

A: Floor press

We have enough people to reach 500.

I think most of the active blog readers have registered. Now we need everyone else.¬†If this were a five-round WOD, we’d be at near the end of round 2

  • Whoa! that is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Matt M.

    Rory’s Ascending Ladder of awesomeness:
    30 HSPU
    40 Pull Ups
    50 KB swings (1.5 pood)
    60 Sit ups
    70 Burpees
    16:28 rx’d

Great work to Rory and Greg

    • Rory

      hoo yah…shoulders are burning

      • Anonymous

Going to try this one…awesomeness, indeed…

    • Jason W

Mainsite once programmed this workout and the very next day programmed it in reverse:
      70 burpees
      60 situps
      50 kb siwngs
      40 pull ups
      30 HSPU

I’m not saying you should do that tomorrow, i’m just saying that it’s been done . . .

    Snatch Pulls –¬†135#
    Snatch Push Press 95-105-115-125-135

Another fatigued Friday on the books.  The Chief wrecked me.

Most morning people have signed up for the Open. ¬†Are evening classes in the same boat? ¬†If so I’m curious about where our next 300 signups are going to come from. ¬†If we hover at 200ish, as impressive as that will be we will definitely not win the contest.

    • Hari

The vast majority will be from Elements and Post Elements. In my estimate, at least 400 of the 500 will not have participated in last year’s Open.

I guess we need Sully to zercher carry the computer over to 28th and sign people up in bulk!

        • There should be a “register for crossfit open pizza party” but instead of pizza, bacon.

        • Sully

There has been a good response from Post Elements folks getting excited and starting to sign up! A computer at 28th St would help, but the idle threat of 100 burpees everyday for a warm up might do the trick also, haha. Great job Post Elements crew! Keep signing up and joining CrossFit NYC, I expect 100% participation just like you give 100% in class everyday!

strict pull-up work as per sara’s instructions with the thin blue and orange bands

then threw in some deadlift work
sets of 5 133-153-163 (PR) -173 (got through 4 at 173 and then failed on the 5th), but PR felt good!

  • Jeff K

Made up “The Chief,” 15 rounds and 2 cleans,115lbs. Cleans were brutal that weight is about 85% of 1 rep max. Gotta keep working on increasing strength. Been doing 5 pushups every time I walk by the kitchen – very helpful.

  • Sara

    “The Chief”
    24 rounds plus 3 cleans, rx’d

  • Jim S

Loved the “In praise of older women” article. And trust me, everything she says is equally true for the other (aging) gender.¬†

  • Anonymous

Holding steady at 199 for more than the last hour…really? 100% of everyone at both locations right now is signed up?

  • The_Lisa

I will be coaching the 0900 NYC Endurance running workout tomorrow. If it is very cold we can do the warmup stretches and drills inside the Box, then go to Madison Square Park to run. Wear a few layers and warm gloves, etc. so you can delayer if you get too warm.

STEVE! Have you signed up yet??????????

    • Steve Slo

Hah… Too funny. I’m not even home yet! Glad to see you back in the evening classes.

  • Steve Slo

    A) 135
Must work on keeping chest high and hips low whilst pulling knees back. It’s tricky.

    B) 135, 135, 135, 145, 145
Wearing a hooded sweatshirt helped cushion the descents. Maybe two sweatshirts when I go for 155?

    Love skill days.

  • Thanks so much! I’ve been looking for something like this, and this is fantastic.

  • Thank you for some other informative website. Where else may just I am getting that type of
information written in such an ideal method? I have been at the look out for such information.

  • florida roofing contractor

This looks absolutely perfect. All these tinny details are made with lot
of background knowledge. I like it a lot. This was a useful post and I
think it is rather easy to see from the other comments as well that this
post is well written and useful.
