Marine Corps Sgt. Michael C. Roy, 25, of North Fort Myers, Fla., assigned to the 3rd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Advisor Group, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune, was killed in action on July 8th, 2009 in Nimroz Province, Afghanistan, while supporting combat operations. He is survived by his wife Amy and three children, Michael, Landon and Olivia.

Here’s Coach Jacinto‘s story of why he’s doing Fight Gone Bad yet again:

For the last 3 years I have participated in the Fight Gone Bad fundraiser to help raise money for the wounded warriors and prostate cancer survivors.
I am 71 years old and back in 2008 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fighting this killer is like Rocky and Apollo Creed–it knocks you down but you keep coming at it. Attack it like you would a WOD. Hey, crossfitters are “hard to kill,” are they not?
This mugger picked on the wrong old guy because I am going to give it the best fight it ever had. I am in a world of hurt right now but I’ll get over it.
So come September 25th, get off your butts and participate in Fight Gone Bad 5.
And if you can’t participate, at least donate. Every little bit helps.

    Tim B, I am seriously considering doing this. I am going to sign up for the Tough Mudder but that is in November, so I want to do this to wet my appetite. When do you need me to make my decision?

    What is the crossfit consensus on resting muscle groups the day after a workout? I did “Angie” last night and I see today’s workout calls for a lot of pullups as well. I was always under the impression that one should never work the same muscle groups two days in a row as this does not give them ample time to recover and can actually be counter productive. Given, I was a day late with “Angie”, but I do see a lot of workouts using the same muscle groups/exercises back to back. What are you thoughts? Is it okay to have two heavy days of working out the same muscle groups?

    Personally, I think body weight exercises could be done daily, if so desired. There is a program to increase your pull ups that has you do them 5 days in a row, then take 2 days off. Push ups and sit ups are probably done daily throughout the military. I’m sure Coach Glassman would have us work on gymnastic movements everyday, if only for muscle memory.
    Lifting heavy is very different though. Olympic lifts tend to fry a person’s nervous system, especially in beginners. I find myself to be more tired two days after a hard snatch session or clean and jerk workout. Also, lifting weights adds more stress to your joints, which if done repeatedly, probably isn’t a good thing.
    I think you will not find two heavy days back to back very often on the website, but that is the beauty of the unknown and unknowable, you never know!
    I’m not a professional, but those are just my thoughts. I read a lot of the Crossfit Journal. They have some pretty good articles about the programming and its advantages. Hope this helped!
