So you know what‚Äôs coming, …..every one is a Big Dawg today. If you are unfamiliar with the movement start light and work on your technique.

The Boston Marathon was held yesterday. In an ultrarunning forum I follow members were reporting how they did in the race and came across the following post: “Since I couldn’t run due to an Achilles injury, I _rowed_ a marathon today on a Concept2 in 2:53:54.8 (pretty decent for 62yo lightweight). I could never beat 3 hours in a running marathon, so I guess this will have to do it for me.”

  • Tim B

rowing a marathon is no joke. the times tend to be slightly faster
my time when I rowed mine was 3:12:07

  • Tim B

    CFE Strength WOD
    15min AMRAP
    6 Hang Power Snatch 95lbs
    8 Ring Dips
    10 GHD Sit Ups
    7 rounds + 2 snatches

  • Adam

wow lisa, rowing a marathon just seems wrong! what kind of pace where you rowing?

  • Tim B

    Adam – I held 2:15-2:20

  • Lisa

I would think rowing would be slower than running, but that’s just me. Tim that time is excellent.

  • Tim B

thanks. one of the rowing journal videos says that if you are in top rowing and top running shape the times are usually within 15% of each other. that was also the journal video surrounded in controversy because the instructor was demonstrating and commenting on wrong form as being correct so who knows.
if anyone ever has a death wish and wants to row one I’ll do it with them. just never EVER doing it alone again haha

  • Lisa

Tim, you do it on the rower and I’ll run it on a treadmill and we can keep each other company as we go insane.

  • Tim B

    wooooooo

  • Lenny

Tim you got crushed by a 62 YO LW. WTF dude?

  • Lisa

Something more interesting than watching someone row a marathon…..
Monday May 03, Brooklyn Boulders will be showing an excellent film on John Gill, pioneer of American bouldering. You might not be interested in rock climbing itself but this man developed strength and endurance training methods back in the 1950’s that enabled him to excel at competitive rope climbing, one-arm one-finger pullups, one arm front levers, etc.
I plan on catching it either in New Paltz, NY on Sat. May 01 or if I miss it there will head to Brooklyn Boulders.

Thanks for the link, Lisa! I recently just got back into climbing and love going to Brooklyn Boulders.
I may check out the film on May 3; anyone interested in getting a group together? The place is open until 11pm, so I was planning on doing a few climbs before and after the film.

    I suck at cleans.
    36/40
    lame, lame, lame LOL
But I did four pull ups today!!!

  • Lisa

The New Paltz showing is on Saturday night. It is a town about 60 miles north of the city. It is not far from the Shawangunks which are world-famous rock climbing cliffs, also lots of state parks in the area so worth making a day trip up there.
OTOH, I have not yet been to Brooklyn Boulders and would love to check it out.

I have been searching for a good remedy to help me sleep too. Melatonin has bad side effects. I read about Calms Forte 4 Kids. That link goes to a review. You think its as good as they say?
