    Scaling options for today’s workout, courtesy of the CrossFit BrandX forums:
    Every one needs to snatch so today everyone is a Big Dawg. Lots of Vids on how to do this on the CrossFit Journal. http://journal.crossfit.com
    Look up “Olympic Lifting” or “Burgener”.

    Also, a word on terminology: when a WOD calls for a “snatch” with no other qualifiers, that implies a full squat snatch (not a power snatch), pulling the bar from the floor (not from the hang). So, the bar starts on the floor, you catch it overhead, you ride the overhead squat all the way down (i.e., below parallel/ass to ankles), then you stand up with the bar with control before putting it back down on the ground.
    No one should skip this workout because they’re uncomfortable with snatching. That’s all the more reason to come to class, get some instruction and feedback from your teacher, and work form to get more comfortable with the movement.

    For those of you planning on working out this Sunday, I’m going to be offering Event #3 of the NY/NJ Sectionals as the Black Box WOD since it’s a Rest Day on the mainsite. This is it:
    Event 3
    Time Cap – 17 Min
    30 OHS 95#/55#
    30 Pullups Chest to Bar (chest must make contact to bar)
    30 Power Snatches 95#/55#
    30 Feet to Bar
    30 SDHP 95#/55#
    30 Air Squats
    30 KBS American 24kg/16kg
    On the same day in Montclair, NJ, a number of our members and coaches will be doing the same WOD at the NY/NJ Sectionals. So coming in and doing the WOD at the Box is a way to show your virtual support and compare your times with theirs. I won’t cap it at 17 minutes since we don’t need to run successive heats the way they do at Sectionals, but would recommend to people to scale appropriately so that they can be done in no less than 20-25 minutes.

    Had great snatch instruction at lunch today from Court.
    We worked on form, not on heavy weight.
    Since I had not done this WOD before my ‘PR’ is the 53# bar I worked with.
    The Brian D. video is very inspirational.

    Don’t think of it as 105 kg. Think of it as about 1.5 times his body weight.

    i felt great today. got the 105 overhead and into the full squat, just couldnt get back up. definitely going for it next time.

    i had a scary bail out on the first attempt at 115. got all the way up to standing out of the squat, bar started to move backwards, didn’t really have a place to go with it, really put a lot of strain on my elbow, got help from bryce getting stable.
    this was in my head for the attempt at 120, which i got under, overhead easily, but dropped when i was on the way up

    120# squat snatch. 125# is my PR, but that was more of a high pull to press out, ugly as sin, power snatch.
