So after a month out of town, working too late on weeknights, and seeking out bucolic recreational vehicle airbrushing on weekends, I finally made it to a gym. The Spectrum Athletic Club in downtown San Antonio, to be exact.
Things started off great as I walked in with my free trial pass, and noticed the guy at the counter had a name tag that said “Court.”
But alas it was downhill from there. Court assured me that they had a great free weight section. It was great — if your idea of a workout is doing all three angles of bench press.
Seriously, that’s all they had. Incline, decline, and flat bench. Of course I put the bar on the floor to do some OHS and C&J’s. There was no PR set today, but I’m not going to blame hexagonal weights and collars that were locked in place with no rotational ability.
I guess it’s been a while since I was a member at a place like this, because I wouldn’t have thought it was possible for the other people to be working out with such low intensity.
Tomorrow, since everyone was looking at me anyway, I’m going to push for pukie.

Is there a running class for NYC Endurance today?

  • james keller

is there anyway we can not tie the express wods that are offered to a certain time frame (i.e. only this wod for this time frame)? i missed the run / wallball wod on saturday but its hardly ever possible for me to get to the box by 6:00pm. if i came in at 6:40 or 7:20 could i make it up then?

  • Emerson

Ramon – NYC Endurance meets at Central Park near Lincoln Center at 6:30pm tonight.

First day back after about 9 days away from the Box; made up yesterday’s WOD:
    AMRAP 20 min:
    15 back-extensions
    15 knees-to elbows
    15 OHS (45#)
    8 rounds
Felt really slow, but it could have been the Tussin I’m on.

It is not really practical for us to run multiple WOD’s at the same time, particularly during the Express WOD’s.
Depending on the scheduled WOD and the WOD someone is looking to make up, the instructor may be able to let a member self manage, but there is no guarantee. In general, we are able to be the most flexible on Friday thru Sunday Rest Days, and less so on Monday thru Thursday.
For your reference, we will try to stick to the following pattern on Monday thru Thursday Rest Days:
6:00 – 6:40: First WOD of the cycle
6:40 – 7:20: Second WOD of the cycle
7:20 – 8:00: Third WOD of the cycle
This may change depending on other constraints (e.g., very noisy WOD’s may be pushed to the later time slots).

Ramon, I meant to say Columbus Circle, not Lincoln Center.

  • Ramon

    Thanks Emerson!

modified BB Wod @ the gym in Park City today. couldn’t get my hands on a jump rope (they had kettle bells but no jump rope…) so I subbed bouncing box jumps (as much as possible) KB swings to shoulder w/12 kg. subbed K2E (ish) for ring pikes.
15’07” felt the altitude with the first 50 box jumps… then i slowed down a little. figured I’d been skiing all morning, also….
