HAPPY 234th BIRTHDAY, MARINE CORPS!

2 weekends ago Torch led a group of Marine Officer candidate recruits through "Fight Gone Bad" with assistance from Sara and Gillian:

A friendly reminder: be sure to put your name and score up on the whiteboard every day. Knowing you're going to have to post your results for all to see will motivate you to work harder, and other people's scores will help you know what to expect:

Scaling options for these 2 workouts, courtesy of the CrossFit BrandX forums:

Here is the scaled version of Cindy (Chelsea’s impatient little sister)
Big Dawgs:
as Rxd

Pack:
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
3 Pull-ups
6 Push-ups
9 Squats
-or-
Complete as many rounds in 12 minutes as you can of:
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Squats

Puppies:
Complete as many rounds in 12 minutes as you can of:
1 Pull-ups (or 3 Jumping Pull ups)
4 Push-ups
7 Squats

Buttercups:
Complete as many rounds in 10 minutes as you can of:
1 Jumping Pull-ups
4 Push-ups
7 Squats

No scaling for Mary. Its a Big Dawg workout.

Puppies and Buttercups: If you cannot do pull ups do jumping pull ups.

If you cannot do push ups, DO NOT do knee push ups. Do box or wall push ups instead. Ask your instructor to demo if you do not know how to do box or wall push ups.
---------------
Please note that despite the opinion of CrossFit BrandX, "Mary" can indeed be a scaled workout. There are lots of ways to scale it and your class instructor can offer plenty of suggestions for that.

I've heard the general rule that you should have around a 20 round Cindy before "graduating" to Mary. I do not have a 20 round Cindy and probably come in somewhere around 16. However, I have done Cindy probably 5 times but never tried Mary.

What is the board's opinion on whether it would be a good idea to switch over and give Mary a shot, with the certain knowledge that:
1) I will have to sub the HSPUs and pistols
2) it will be more of a strength workout than Metcon as I won't be able to work it nearly as fast.

I'm tempted to do it since I am atrocious at pistols and HSPUs and would like to decrease that to somewhere around awful or horrid.

Cindy: 12 rds +1 pullup as rx'd

Cashout: worked on HSPU, finally got upside down! I do not like being upside down.

Kurt,

Give Mary a shot. At this point, you will probably get more out of doing it, even with the subs.

I started alternating the 2 every other time they come up a few months ago.

Kurt,

When I'm in doubt about these things, I use an advanced analytical technique (one that no doubt also got you through the LSAT): I read what is written and then apply the conventional meanings to the words. In this instance, there is nothing about conditioning the choice between the two "girls" on anything other than the athlete's personal preference.

This one is not nearly as subtle as "partition as needed."

Does this mean:

A) If needed then partition
B) Do not partition if not needed
C) If partitioned than needed
D) If not partitioned than not needed
E) Partition if and only if needed

Happy 234th Birthday Leathernecks!

In honor of our 234th Birthday, I took my remedial PT group on a combat casualty evacuation run. 2x through the obstacle course, followed by 2 miles of carrying a member on a poleless litter, followed by another individual 2.8 miles.

Out of town for the month; did 13 rounds of Cindy as rx'd on some monkey bars in palo alto.

Mary as Rx'd

10 Full rounds

Black Box (235,235)

Since I did Cindy two days ago, I did max deadlift today (I have a bad habit of practicing things I enjoy over things I really need to practice).

I got 225#...a 10# PR!! So excited.

If you participated in FGBIV and raised over $150, your t-shirt is here for you at the box.

Made up Filthy Fifty yesterday: 25:53 rx'd

Cindy today: 19 rds + 5 pull + 5 push

Mary, Mary
9 rds + 5 hspu and 5 pistols

Cindy. 14 rounds + 5 pull ups + 7 push ups

Also did yesterday's 5k run:
22:22 (mile splits were 7:30, 7:10, 6:54)

Mary: 4 rounds plus 2 hspu as rx'd... first time doing Mary as I was waiting to be able to do full hspu... lots of room to improve.

Mary rx'd 8rds + 5hspu/10pis/2 pull ups..my ass is shot

Cindy - 17rds + 7 PSU

This was terrible. I know I keep saying this, but my push-ups suck. Bad before shoulder injury, a joke after.

Need to start working on these. PR is 22 rds.
