Dead Serious

There’s still time to register to participate with us this Saturday, 9/26, for Fight Gone Bad IV, the CrossFit community’s annual charity drive to support Athletes for a Cure and the Wounded Warrior Project. (We’ll be running the FGB event side by side with the regular WOD classes from 11am through 2pm.)
Our team is now at 19 20 people strong: myself, Torch, Casey, Kent, Sophie, Sara, Ian, Mike K., Kim, Grant, Lenny, Mike M., Chris O., Martin P., Kyle, Zach, Alexei, Dan T., David V., and Avery. We have raised $2581 $3046 thus far!
If you can’t participate, please consider a donation. It just takes a moment and you can give as little as the cost of a cup of coffee or as much as you can spare. (When donating, type “crossfit nyc” as the team name then choose a member to donate to–preferably one who has yet to meet the $150 mark.)
And to those readers who responded to my request for support yesterday, thank you. I’ve now exceeded my $500 fundraising goal by $25 (and counting)!

  • From the CrossFit/Brand X forums, scaling info about this WOD along with info about the deadlift:
“I wish I knew how you could overstate the value of the deadlift.”
    –Greg Glassman
Here are some vids everybody should watch regarding the deadlift whether you are familiar with the lift or not:
If you are familiar with this lift then you are a Big Dawg today:
    Big Dawgs:
    as Rx’d
Everybody else, if you are unfamiliar with the lift watch the videos above and the use the time today to practice this lift with a piece of PVC pipe or a light barbell.
A wise investment is the book Starting Strength 2nd edition by Mark Rippetoe. If you don’t have a coach this book will help you understand the lifts. If you do have a coach it will point out how little he/she knows.
Here is a link to the book:
Let me also add that I found this video useful:

Also just donated! There are still a few people who aren’t at $150. I ecourage all to give even a nominal bit. The small donations add up. These are two great causes.

I left my workout info in the back pocket of the pants I was in yesterday, so this is from memory. There was at least one fail in there, but I don’t remember which one–probably the last one before I dropped some weight.
I’m still rounding my back and pulling from shoulders, so I need to work on form.
