Your weighted pull-ups don’t have to be this heavy, but it’s great if they are. (Extra credit if you can identify this Black Boxer and at which (old) location of the Black Box he’s doing his weighted pull-ups.)


  • How to scale today’s WOD, from the CrossFit BrandX forums:
    Big Dawgs-Pack-Puppies
    If you can do a pull up do the above workout. Even if you can only add 5 pounds it will be good for you.
    If you cannot do any pull ups do 5 rounds of 5 beginner pull ups or 5 rounds of 5 assisted pull ups using as little resistance as possible.

    I’ll use my extra credit and to get off the hook and say I was uninspired by this WOD. I just put on the 30# vest and did max reps for 7 sets. Best set was 5 reps I think. I do it for real next time.
    Then I did some random stuff:
    2 rounds slosh pipe walking lunges with 1 min handstand holds (Kurt’s cash out)
    bench press 5-5-5 [95-115-135(4)]
    3 rounds of 5 ring push-ups, 10 toes to bar, 15 double unders

    First time with this WOD.
    I would like to say that I was greatly inspired by this WOD, especially after more than a week of doing basically nothing with my body except crutching around and one day of rolling around in the sand plus the occasional arm balance at the ocean’s edge.
    I executed the WOD at my doorway rigged pull-up bar and with a profound hope that I would not end up with my body or any breakable household objects in a shattered mess on the floor.
    Weights are based on the bathroom scale as I’m doing this from home. I’m wearing my roboboot and I can’t be bothered to figure out how much I weigh with or without the roboboot right now.
    When I last stepped on the scale sans boot a few days ago I was 132.
    The basic weight containing device is a backpack.
    1) 11 (boombox, notebook, wallet, shirt whatever else is in my backpack)
    2) 28.5 (minus the boombox, plus ice cream maker bucket, giant cheap bottle of wine, 2-liter bottle of diet coke, an old shotput, a hair dryer, and a bottle of laundry detergent)
    3) 28.5 (same as above…getting worried about the ice cream maker and am in search of smaller, heavy household objects)
    4) 32 (minus the shirt, detergent, hair dryer, and ice cream maker, plus joyce carol oates book, iron nautical star, clarinet in case)
    5) 32 (failed to get chin over the bar)
    6-7-8 (oops) as above, but minus the wine and diet coke —-> I’m a little afraid they are going to fall out of my bag anyway —-> one set of three

    Was nowhere near a pullup bar today – ran some miles then went to the beach. However, my beach reading was ‘Starting Strength’ so I worked on my squats with a driftwood ‘bar.’ The sand was useful as I could use my footprints to use variety of stance width and foot angle.
    Davi, I LOVE your creative method of doing the WOD. From doing heavy backpack training I know what it is like to pile everything and the kitchen sink into a pack to get the desired weight 🙂

    I, too, love Davi’s improv. Awesome! I went for the purple string again today. I can get up if I kip, and I’ve got nothing from a dead hang. So still working on that. Also, because I’m a jackass, couldn’t resist doing one arm pull-ups. With the green band, swinging around like a nutcase. Fun.
