Bye, Brian!

We all knew he was leaving soon to head back to school, but I just found out this morning that Coach Brian DeGennaro‘s last day of teaching is today (12:30pm, 6pm, 7pm, 8pm). So please stop by the box today if you can and wish him well on his second year of college. (If you’re looking for some last-minute o-lifting coaching from him, I’d especially recommend tonight’s 8pm skills class that he’s teaching.) And if you can’t stop by, use the comments below to give your best wishes!

Doesn’t look like there is enough interest in the September 12 Black Box Games to make them work. We’ll decide over the next few days whether we need to cancel.
If you’re interested, please register. If we cancel, your $20 ($40 for non members) will be immediately refunded.

  • Jeff

This WOD looks like fun. I think I’ve got roughly 10 135# snatches in me.
Are you taking the reigns on the upcoming rest day dinner? And is it going to be in K-Town?

  • Hari

The next Friday Rest Day is at the start of the Labor Day Weekend. I haven’t picked a restaurant, but I’m sure I can find something that fits our needs, once I see that there is interest. Whose in?

  • Adam L

Has anyone experienced calve soreness after a jump in KB weight?
my calves are really sore today. thanks

  • Zach Singer

Probably an indication that your form broke down a bit in the jump to a heavier KB. You’re probably letting the bell pull you forward a little bit and pressing through your toes to propel it up instead of your heels. Next time, root yourself solidly, don’t let the bell pull you, and really focus on driving through your heels and getting a good solid hip explosion – remember, a snappy hip is a happy hip, as Martone says.

  • Adam L

Thanks Zach that makes sense since i recall moving forward a few times. thanks again form, form, form.

  • Alexei

Did Jacinto’s 6x(6,6,6) workout (although I think I might have only gotten 5 rounds in…).
It happens to be chock full of things I suck at! Great workout… even if I had to substitute very heavily just to keep going through it.
Finisher – Tabata style GHD sit ups, only 10 rounds instead of 8.
Not sure what happened on round 9…

  • torch

    hari, i’m in.

  • Tim

    slept in this morning
    it was glorious
I have to skip sept 4th, heading up to Syracuse for the state fair

  • kj

I too am out for the 4th, as I will be in Florida for Labor Day.
Today is a rest day that even I can get behind.

  • Kelly

    hi everyone-
I recently took a job in CT and so, sadly, my last wod will probably be Tuesday – I’ll be at the 7pm WOD out in BK and was then thinking about grabbing some food/drink after. Would love if people could join!
It’s been awesome working out with everyone. I’ll be joining Crossfit Persevere up in Glastonbury, CT, but I’ll definitely be back to drop in some weekends 🙂

  • Kelly, we’ll miss you and your hard work and good attitude. Keep us posted on how things go up at CF Persevere!

  • Kelly

Have a great year at school Brian!! Thanks for all the great coaching 🙂

  • Lisa

Brian, that is an amazing photo!
It has been great to get the benefit of your instruction. Hope to see you back on occasion.
Goodbye to Kelly too – good to hear you have another Crossfit location lined up and don’t be a stranger.

  • Mike

I’ll be out of town on the 4th, so no rest day dinner for me this time.
Have a great semester Brian, and thank you for your coaching on oly lifts!
Kelly good luck with the new job in CT. Keep training hard up there!

  • Lt Gabe

Count me in for Friday the 4th rest day dinner. Haven’t been around for one in a long time. Torch, remind me that I have something to bring you.

  • torch

    will do

  • Sara

Does anyone know a good chiropractor? I have a friend with a bad back problem

  • Zach Singer

Depends on your friend’s carrier, but I’ve found Kyle Worrell with Manhattan Sports Medicine to be quite good.
He’s a chrio, but also does A.R.T. if you need it. He used to be a strength coach and has run 3 iron mans. He understands from experience the effects various types of training have on our bodies.
    Anyway, Kyle Worrell.

  • torch

Friday Night Fight out in BK tomorrow @ 8pm. Learn some self defense combatives from sweaty dudes with shaved heads… scary, i know.

  • Jai

Thanks for all your help, Brian! Wish I could make it tonight.
I know a chiro who, if he accepts your health insurance, doesn’t bother charging you co-pays. Has a masseuse on had some days, too. Want me to fish out his info? It’s been a while since I went because I didn’t find chiropractic care useful, but some people love it.
I’m around for Labor Day, so if there’s a dinner, I’m in.

  • Mike M

Just wondering why on some of my muscle ups, i can get one arm over the top of the ring and then the other arm after it…as opposed to getting both arms transitioned to the dip position at the same time. sometimes my arm swings out and the shoulder is being jerked awkwardly…any advice would be appreciated.
and good luck Brian and kelly.

  • Sara

Thanks Zach! Jai, he already scheduled an appointment with Kyle Worrell, but thanks.

  • Brian K.

Brian G. good luck at school! I enjoyed your classes this summer, hope to see you back soon.
Did 14 Rounds of Nate today. Still using 45 lb plate and ab mat for Handstand Push-ups, but they are getting easier to do.

  • Davi

    Several things:
    1) Rad photos all around.
    Lenny – that’s a great pic.
    2) Brian – you’re a fucking rockstar. I look forward to training with you when I’m on my feet again.
    3) Which do you think is worse: ripped callouses or extreme crutches-induced hand ache?
Would you be interested in a potluck and drinks at my place? I am blessed with the space to host a good number of people. I live in midtown on the east side.
I approve of leisurely lounging around on rest days (and at social gatherings), which is sometimes hard to do at a bar/restaurant.
It’s true that a bar/restaurant requires nothing of you besides your presence and money and I’d request that you actually bring something to eat/drink/share with everyone else. But I’m a house party kinda gal, especially while I happen to live in this particular house (apt), so I thought I’d offer up the possibility to you.

  • Aram

Brian, thanks for the great coaching.

  • Jai

I’d love a in-house rest day dinner. There’s too much background noise at restaurants. My ears seem to be forty years older than the rest of me whenever I’m in a bar!

  • Rickke

Made up thrusters, HPC, SDHP as Rx’d – 7 rounds.
Big thanks to Sara for making me do it Rx’d and for pushing me during the WOD.
Good luck back at school, Brian, and we’ll miss you Kelly!
I’m up for rest day dinner at Davi’s.

  • steve-O

Hey Brian, good luck this year, thanks for the great training!
and to all those bacon fans out there, here’s something for a rainy day…

  • Jessica L.

Tuning in a bit late to say I am in for rest day dinner. Davi, I think it would be awesome to have it in a non-restaurant space!
