Good luck Gabe! there's nothing hotter than a man tearing ribs apart.

Holy shit, Torch! Nice one. :)

This is my contribution for today from Rip:

"On the possibility of a failure to deadlift resulting in stroke:

Deadlifts that are too heavy to pull generally don't take very long; the bar just kinda lays there.

So if trying to move immovable objects was dangerous from the standpoint of stroke, the history of the human race would be littered with stupid people's corpses."

Bet you all wish I could get back to training.

I haven't been getting too sore lately, but the rest day / NE qualifier WOD did the trick (as rx'd 1 burpee shy of 5 rnds). Mainly because I went too heavy and the last 2 rounds of thrusters had to put down and re-clean the weight 3 times each. It was teh suck.

Torch!
That's crazy. What the hell kinda move up is 315 - 385?
Wow.
Seems to me last time we did this, it was much lower...
Seriously nice work.

lifts felt pretty good today

From the CrossFit/Brand X forums, scaling info about this WOD along with info about the deadlift:

"I wish I knew how you could overstate the value of the deadlift."
--Greg Glassman

Here are some vids everybody should watch regarding the deadlift whether you are familiar with the lift or not:

http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_RipDLAlignment1.wmv

http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_RipDLAlignment2.wmv

If you are familiar with this lift then you are a Big Dawg today:

Big Dawgs:
as Rx’d

Everybody else, if you are unfamiliar with the lift watch the videos above and the use the time today to practice this lift with a piece of PVC pipe or a light barbell.

A wise investment is the book Starting Strength 2nd edition by Mark Rippetoe. If you don’t have a coach this book will help you understand the lifts. If you do have a coach it will point out how little he/she knows.

Here is a link to the book:

Let me also add that I found this video useful:

Craig- Fool's luck aside, reading has taught me that history really is littered with stupid people's corpses.

In modern history, these deaths are usually preceded by "Dude, hold my beer and watch this..."

Thanks Kirk and Davi. It's a 10 pound PR. That jump was really a warm up jump. I just got lazy and counted it.

Good luck Gabe!

Interesting lifts today... Pulled 480, which is close to my best pr of 505 (back when I was a youngin'). However 480 is a lot more than I have pulled in recent years. This 5-3-1 program + CF Football must be working. Not too far off of my goal of an 1100 total (395 BS and 205 press) for the year.

Bah! No access to streaming video at work so Allison I will have to look at those links at home tonight. Thanks for posting.
I am taking a rest day today and am sorry to miss this WOD but of course it will come around again.
