A question: does a “rep” of SDHP have to include taking the bar back to ground?
i.e., in the context of this workout, can I do my tenth SDHP up to my chin, adjust grip, and drop right into thrusters? Or does the bar have to go to ground on the last SDHP?

  • Kelly

    8 rounds + 3 Thrusters
super motivating group at 7am this morning!

  • Craig_Cinci

Rory, I’d be pretty impressed if you managed to go from a narrow grip to a shoulder width thruster grip w/o putting the bar down. If you can do that, you should be using more weight. This workout is going to fry your grip.
Torch – Taking a rest day?

  • Dude

the full movement of the SDHP is the bar starts on the floor and ends on the floor. If it is your 10th rep as per your question, then yes you can go directly into the thrusters, because the WOD only requires 9 reps. I would be careful of doing that because your body positioning is different for both exercises, you will have to adjust your hand and foot positioning.
I would suggest that you would be better off taking a second or two adjusting your body positioning w/ the bar on the ground then conducting a movement w/ bad form. All honestly this is a difficult WOD and if you do not need a rest between movements that is very impressive.
    Good Luck and have fun.

  • Rory

Yeah, now that I’ve thought more about the mechanics or switching from SDHP to thruster I agree it’s a dumb idea. Also, to be clear, I wasn’t planning to go unbroken from set to set; I was imagining doing 9 SDHPs, taking a brief break, then doing the tenth SDHP (it is 10 right? Not sure where Dude is seeing 9) into the thrusters.

Torch had his monthly hair color appointment to keep his hair orange. Secret’s out Torch!

  • Rickke

    6 rounds + 5 thrusters + 3 HPCs Rx’d
The board said 9 SDHP instead of 10 this morning. The mistake was discovered after I finished the 5th round, so on the 6th round I did 15 SDHP to make up for what I should’ve done each round.
This was a rough one, but fun. Thanks for encouraging me to do 95#, Jeff.

    Taking a rest day today.
Coming back to the Box tomorrow

Alternatively to Brett’s hair coloring theory, I have my own theory.
First, I don’t know if any of you saw the “martial arts” practice going on between Torch, Court, and some gangly other Caucasian at the box last night. Second, I would have to say, as an Asian man (and thus an automatic expert in all things relating to the Dark Arts of Close Quarters Combat) I’ve no idea what they were doing. Frankly it looked more like some sort of close contact breakdancing routine/ticklefest. It certainly was neither the shadowy ninjutsu (Code of the Shinobi) nor the elegant Jeet Kun Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist).
So my theory is, based upon the training I witnessed last night, that Torch and a group of commandos were hired by the CIA to rescue downed airmen from guerrillas in a Central American jungle. The mission went well but as they returned they found that something was hunting them for sport, killing them off one at a time.

    and also

  • Gangly Caucasian (aka Kirk)

You have insulted my Master and the heritage of my Break Dancing/Tickle Art…and gave away Top Secret information relating to the activities of my “Organization” and the whereabouts of myself, Court and Torch (our significant others are really angry now!)
These affronts must be dealt with…
Our Kung-Fu is greater than yours!
So, we challenge you to hand-to-hand combat in the old style. We will meet in a secret location, far below the subways of New York where we will face each other in mortal combat. Our hands will be wrapped in cord, dipped in resin and then CRUSHED GLASS! Our fight will be judged by a blind man who will know the victor simply by the cries of pain.
Once the victor is decided, we will break for coffee, have our hair dyed bright orange and then do today’s WOD… praying to the gods that we can come close to Torch’s ridiculous 11 rounds…
