Happy Birthday, Allison!

Hello world and members of CrossFit NYC, please wish our operations manager and trainer, Allison Bojarski, a happy birthday. She’s the one responsible for putting up this blog every day and making our day to day operations run smoothly here at the Black Box.
She’s been with us almost since the beginning and we’re grateful for her.
(P.S.-She doesn’t know I re-edited her entry)

For time:
100 Inverted burpees
Post time to comments.

*The Inverted Burpee: starting supine, kip (or sit-up and roll) to standing, kick-up to handstand. This burpee derivative involves similar amounts of work and greater skill than the traditional burpee. (photo sequence here, video sequence here)

    Compare to date is 11/10/08.

I HATE inverted burpees but they’re freaking amazing as an exercise. I just got back from my week in the field and am going to make up Danny today, but I’ll do some of these as a warmup.

My bad, 11/10/08 wasn’t the same WOD as today.

    The Porch:
    75 Inverted Burpees
    50 Inverted Burpees
    25 Inverted Burpees
    15 Inverted Burpees
My own added 2 cents is that with inverted burpees, if you struggle with the kicking-up-to-handstand-at-the-wall portion of the movement, you can always count attempts on the kick-to-handstand, much in the way that those who struggle with double-unders can count attempts rather than only count successful completions (otherwise you’ll be there all day).
The way to get better at kicking up to a handstand at the wall is to practice that very thing, and a workout like this is a tremendous opportunity to practice, improve, and get over the fear of doing this movement.

    Happy birthday, Allison!
8:16 – pretty much unbroken except for the moments when the coffee I drank right before felt like it might come out my nose. Today I had a reason to be thankful for all the handstand practice the past month.

    Clumsy, awkward and slow throughout.

    Happy Birthday Alllison,
wow that is a smoking time rickke nice work. 18:26 for me, poor form but a major step up from the last time. I hope everyone gets to enjoy this amazing day.

    Happy birthday Allison!
Rickke – you killed it! Great job!
This seems like my kinda WOD. I’m looking forward to doing it. But definitely not today.
I “hit the wall”, as they say, this morning in the park with Keith and Virtuosity. A WOD that should have taken me about 10 minutes (run 400, 30/20/10 reps each of squats/hill climbers/pushups, run 400) took 15. Some down time (more sleep!) and perhaps an increase in Zone blocks/diet tweaking may be in order.
Still, a gorgeous day to be outside, even if I was rolling around in the dirt most of the time instead of gracefully executing pushups.

First off – Happy Birthday, Allison!
Beyond that — in Boston for the weekend and had a great workout with the crew at Crossfit New England here doing some Games Qualifiers WoDs — with minor tweaks.
Did a variation of Great Basin WOD #1
    Snatch 5-4-3-2-1
In between each round of snatches, 70m sled drag (90#)*
*Sled is a tire with two plates on it — and rubber effing grabs on concrete. oh, and the 70m was down a hill and back up. WTF 🙂
Then did a version of the SoCal WoD
    5 rounds for time:
    5 Clean and Jerk (155#/105#)
    12 Chest to Bar Pullups
    200m Run
These were both a lot of fun, actually. Cool idea to get together on the weekend and do some Games WoDs.

Not many people touch my life everyday – because of the great work you do with CFNYC and its website – you are one of them.
Thanks for everything and have a fantastic day!

  • Jeff

I think for at least 90% of mine, I kicked up on my weak foot. Hooray for skills practice.
