Thanks to Keith for the many photos he took while also assisting at this weekend's kettlebell cert. Here's a few of those photos below. Click here for the entire (huge!) photo set.
See which Black Boxers you can spot in this photo from the kettlebell cert:

Chris O. demos the kettlebell-as-pillow option:

The barriers fell, one year, one step at a time
Fish intake and mercury
Everybody wants Michelle Obama's cocktail arms
This is our concern

From the CrossFit/Brand X forums, scaling info about this WOD along with info about the deadlift:

"I wish I knew how you could overstate the value of the deadlift."
--Greg Glassman
Here are some vids everybody should watch regarding the deadlift whether you are familiar with the lift or not:

If you are familiar with this lift then you are a Big Dawg today:
Big Dawgs:
as Rx’d
Everybody else, if you are unfamiliar with the lift watch the videos above and the use the time today to practice this lift with a piece of PVC pipe or a light barbell.
A wise investment is the book Starting Strength 2nd edition by Mark Rippetoe. If you don’t have a coach this book will help you understand the lifts. If you do have a coach it will point out how little he/she knows.
Here is a link to the book:

mercury article - will read the whole thing and the comments later
...
this is of great interest to me as a former vegetarian who discovered the wonders of seafood 2 1/2 years ago and was diagnosed accurately or otherwise about 8 months ago with low grade mercury poisoning by a dermatologist (after having the most horrendous, vast, and sudden outbreak of eczema).
to be continued...
Does anyone know what time and where the endurance folks meet in the park tommorow?
My first deadlift WOD

why did I go from 230 to 215? and fail 215 when I'd done 225 before? The mind boggles (I blame Monday morning and having biked to the box in the snow or, uh, general absentmindedness/lack of clear will in WOD strategizing) ;)

damn you, Gabe K
CFE tomorrow @ 6:30p
location is TBD due to the snow
we will have to see how clean the streets/paths are in Central Park or the West Side Highway and determine which will be better.
How many people would be interest in meeting at CFNYC @ 615p then do a warm up run (slowly to the West side Highway @ 26th Street, where others can meet us there @ 630p and this when class will start?
The last few classes we ran in Central Park and really did not have a place to store our gear, so this might be a solution.
let me know what you think,
Thanks.

Jeff...to be fair...i'm probably twice your weight...
So DAMN YOU!
I ended at 385, worked up in about increments of 10s then 5s to get there

Previous PR was 205.
(40, 21)
Brian - I'd be in for meeting at CFNYC at 6:15 and jogging from there.
On today's WOD I tried to get 225# straight across but this is what happened instead: 225, 225, 225, failed 2x @225, 215, fail @ 215 (Jacinto distracted me!), 215.
Also, last Friday I got a new PR on the deadlift (240#) and on Saturday at the KB cert I did a Turkish get up with the 24kg for the first time ever. Fun times!
One other thing: Court posted more of Keith's pics from the cert on the BK blog and added some pretty funny captions: http://www.crossfitbrooklyn.com/2009/03/at-least-it-wasnt-3000-kb-swin.html#comments
I like this 225 across idea, Allison.

I think this was the first time I've done a deadlift workout without major form issues, i.e. back rounding. That's probably mostly related to single repping, but I think some progress is there as well.
I am in for cfe tommorow. Meeting at the gym sounds good to me.
