This is my type of WOD. Excited much.

allison-loved the "bulky" article. especially since Hari told me that a female aquiantence of ours recently told him that she would not want to do crossfit because I looked BULKY.

i would say she looked emaciated.

I love Crossfit and all its trainers for making me realize that fat skinny is unhealthy and unattractive. The eight pounds (yes EIGHT) that I have gained since starting crossfit two years ago has been worth every ounce to feel stronger, lift more, get more pullups and well maybe according to some women - LOOK BULKY. I look forward to getting "bulkier".
SQUATS AND MILK.

woot :)

It used to be that women were discouraged from becoming educated. Now they are discouraged from becoming strong. Frail and anorexic is Western Civilization's burka.

Just wanted to throw a thanks out to Brian for the CFE work on Tuesday. Good times in the cold.

The Chief

AMRAP in 3minutes
135# powercleans
6 pushups
9 squats

Frail and anorexic is Western Civilization's burka.

That may be the best comment Hari has ever made.

Nice afternoon group today....

10 Woodchops each arm
"Bear Crawl" one building length

WOD as Rx'd in 8:55 (38,38)

Really pushed through the lunges without rest. I did the first three sets of pull-ups broken in half then last three unbroken.

15:11 ghd situps

Saw this weight vest, looks interesting. Any thoughts ?

Re: "Frail and anorexic is Western civilization's burka"
My mother has always said that a woman should always be able to carry her own suitcase. You can interpret that in many different ways, and either way, literally or figuratively it's meaningful. Being strong enough to carry your own suitcase is something I live by and encourage all my nieces to strive for as well, both literally and figuratively.

Nice job Tripp. Smoking fast.

13 something - subbed 20 x 115 lbs deadlifts for the lunges as to not aggravate the patella tendonitis in my knee. this was a tough sub.

tripp - i concur - FAST.

Brian did it in 10 minutes w/ every set up pullups unbroken.

George -

I've been making myself stick to a predetermined "rep-scheme" in WODs like this. I've found that even a second or two rest to regrip, etc. can really make a difference. The other thing that a few people noted today (Court and Jacinto) is that I used an arm swing in the lunges that was perhaps akin to a kip. It really kept my lunges moving - much more so than were I to have kept them stationary or on my hips.

a kipping lunge - who woulda thunk it!

Tonight's WOD:

I wouldn't even know how to respond to a woman that considers Michelle "bulky". Is she confused and forgot the words "lean and toned", which most women in the gym claim to want to be?

What makes me giggle the most about this whole "bulky" myth is that these particular women think that a few sessions in the gym with weights is somehow going to turn them into total she-beasts. As though this is somehow a) very easy to do and b) irreversible.

I also like how females buy into the myth that if they run a lot they will look "long and lean" like a marathoner or somehow it will be super easy to lose and keep weight off. Why is it that there are so many overweight slow long distance runners in general?

Women are all sorts of confused when it comes to fitness and health. I'm glad sites like Stumptuous exist!
