Just a friendly reminder: if the thought of an 11am or noon workout strikes you as way too early for a Sunday, then consider heading out to our sister gym for the 2pm WOD. (As a member of CFNYC, you have access to CFBK, too–you did know that, yeah?)
And if you’re a newbie looking for a free beginners’ class who is too tired for our 10am weekend beginners’ classes here in Manhattan, then hop the L train out to CFBK for their Saturday and/or Sunday beginners’ classes at 1pm.

We all know by now that the opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. So in keeping with yesterday’s theme of what do you love about CrossFit and/or CFNYC, please post to comments the thing you are now most indifferent about when it comes to working out –what useless crap have you abandoned from your previous training and/or eating habits? (It has to be a thing you once held dear and valued.) How has cutting out that thing (or action, or mindset) helped you focus on what really does make a positive difference in being truly fit?

    On another note, here’s one for “why I love CFNYC.”
    As many of you know, I hate running and pretty much never do it. Today, since I couldn’t make it to the box, I was determined to do an early morning run. 3 miles, not a huge distance by any standards.
    However, I did it in what I consider a reasonable time (just under 30 mins) and I wasn’t completely killed from it (unlike 6 months ago when I would’ve been heaving on the sidewalk).
    It ALMOST makes me want to run more and improve….almost!
    So, to that, thanks!

    Couldn’t make it to the box this morning, but I wanted to get some running in so I did Travis for today’s WOD.
    2 rounds – 800m run, 400m run backwards – 14:05
    My pace was considerably slower on the 2nd 800m
    Hmm… stuff from old workouts I’m most indifferent about – I’d have to say doing “cardio.” Every WOD I’ve done for time has gotten my heart rate up higher and had more intensity than any cardio I’ve ever done on a treadmill, elipitcal, bike, etc.
    I also don’t miss seeing people monopolizing the squat rack to do bicep curls when you want to work out. ;)

    I have become indifferent to bad carbs, for the most part. Aside from the post-WOD sweet potato, I have tried to stick to the “meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, no sugar” way of eating. All while using a Paleo-like guide to quality of foods that I eat. I have definitely noticed performance gains, especially in metcons, and an improvement in overall body composition and weight.
    And on a related note, I am nearly through Good Calories, Bad Calories, and have to say that the book is eye-opening. While it can be dense sometimes, the concepts in the book are amazing and worth taking the time to get through.

    Indifferent — what means this word? I have an opinion on everything…seriously.
    Good work today everyone — this is not how I wanted to wake up on Sunday, but whatever. Maybe I could say I’ve become indifferent about running, and today evidenced that. I certainly don’t love running, though when I have to run, I love knowing / continually learning POSE. I still mostly dislike running, but through Crossfit I will pretty much run whenever they tell me too. That said, I really couldn’t get interested in or motivated for today’s WOD. I was pretty much bored the whole time — in pain, yes, but still bored. Could have been faster if I could have dialed in some interest and intensity.

    P.S. Mike, good work today, but my OCD compels me to let you know that WOD is known as Griff, named for SSgt Travis Griffin. Great work on it man — running backwards sucks more than running forwards, it turns out, and 400m is a long way to do it for. :-)

    Zach, thanks for the comment. I missed the common names above the pictures when I was looking them up on the main site… I thought it was weird that I didn’t remember one called Travis, but I know I had seen this one posted in the past.
    400m backwards is much harder than I would’ve thought… quads were completely on fire by the end of it.
