If you cannot do double unders, sub tuck jumps.

And my two cents:

I'm a firm believer in counting all attempts whether successful or not for those people who are still mastering the double-under. Once proficient at double-unders, then only count successful ones.

REPOST FROM YESTERDAY'S COMMENTS

Well, today is the day to email Craig at Hoboken and confirm our place at their little throw-down.

Here is what I have as far as member interest is concerned at the moment.

- Craig Chaikin
- Jeff Yan
- Brian DeGennaro
- Kevin Prowse
- Myself
- Tripp - "I'd go as a spectator* if one of the trainers needs a spot. Same goes if someone with more experience and\or better numbers wants to go"
- Juan - Interested but thought a BBB team was going. Also volunteered to go as spectator*

As far as I know, this is the extent of interested people who will be in town and available. If I've missed you on this list, please let me know. Also notice that we currently have 7 people listed as being interested, but two are willing to stand down, so to speak, for a trainer to go or another member -- Coach P, Josh, any interest?

Again, if you're interested please post here as soon as possible today. Thanks for all the interest and help with this guys. Should be a great showing and a lot of fun, whatever happens.

*From David Osorio's post, note that spectatorship is discouraged, unfortunately, as they are a little worried about space limitations at the facility. My assumption is that a few would be fine, but we can't take a whole herd of onlookers.

Started the morning off right and joined Anthony in finishing his Burpee Challenge:

100 Burpees for time
6:48

The on to my new best friend, Annie
As my Double Unders suck, I did 200 singles for the first three rounds trying to get at least one, if not two double unders every third or fourth jump. Last two rounds I only counted the double unders:

14:12

...and something new to work on every morning as part of the warm-up...

Zach,

All I can say is that that's a pretty solid team. Kick some ass!

Zach-

I had been hoping to jump in to represent for us trainers, but am booked at the same time for my mother-in-law's holiday party, and she's scarier than all of you six put together.

josh

Josh,

Sorry you won't be able to make it in Hoboken. That is, however, a brilliant way of describing your little in-law predicament. It's shocking how frightening 'little old lady's' can become in the context of going against the traditional grain of holiday festivities. Hope you have a good time at the party as well, though.

Also, I fully expect to see you there for tabata shots at the holiday party this weekend. I have a sneaking suspicion that things could get ugly pretty quickly.

I find the concept of Tabata shots frightening and yet oddly exciting...in any case, it sounds like a wonderfully bad idea :)

Congrats Anthony!! Way to go!

Awesome work Anthony!!

Nice work finishing the Challenge, Anthony!

I know there were a lot of arguments around the 2008 Games' choice of workouts and some people think that the competition was "stacked" to favor strong o-lifters and disfavor small runners. In that vein, there is a very interesting article in the Journal this month where some of the statistics are run and compared how the different workouts influenced the outcome. Link, that requires subscription, is here: http://journal.crossfit.com

Short answer: The run and the deadlift event didn't really matter much, as the time variation between places was so small, leading to good finishes in those events producing much less of a time gain as compared to Heavy Fran and Grace. Discusses suggested changes to the upcoming 09 Games, if they want to have all events contribute more equally to determining the winner and how different scoring/event length, might have changed the outcome this year.

After speaking with Kevin Williams and with Tripp, I think we have the situation for the Hoboken challenge pretty much set.

Team:
Kevin Williams (Trainer)
Craig Chaikin
Jeff Yan
Brian DeGennaro
Kevin Prowse
Zach Singer

Alternates:
Tripp
Juan

I'm not sure how you have to register, but I am going to email Craig at Hoboken and let him know that we will have a team there and I will also ask him what other information he needs from us.

Either way, i won't be submitting information about the names of team members until later, if he requires it at all. This provides a safety net if for some reason someone has to drop out at the last minute.

I'll provide more color later when I hear from Craig. Also, Court may have some thoughts on this to be posted later, so if interested, keep an eye out for those.

Best,

Zach

Thanks for looking into this, Zach.

WOD as Rx'd in 13:31

Today was my first ever attempt at doing double unders, and I'm glad Court made me do it. I found them a bit enjoyable actually - at least more so than tuck jumps. I think I also got over my jump rope aversion, at least enough to spend some time working on them.

Also, thanks to Zach for figuring the Challenge out. It's gonna be a lot of fun.

awesome looking team.
so whats the deal, 12 of us can go total?
6 participants each with a guest?

what about the party they're having later is that open for more people to go.

Hmmm... This workout looks more like a warm-up. Or am I grossly under-estimating it?

Juan,

The 'one guest' is for the holiday party. It said all athletes are welcome to attend, and the cost of it seems to be $35 from the posting on their website. With that you can bring one guest.

i'm not sure how many people can go to the event, since he seems to be worried about space limitations. That said, I haven't seen anything posted on the website, so I figure we should let whoever wants to go, go. Of course, that is to the extent that we aren't bringing too many people in excess of the team. I'd say 12 is perfectly reasonable.

Note that going to the event doesn't get you into the party for free, I don't believe. The fee for that covers bar and buffet, so the cost is explained by that. i believe for the challenge itself they are only asking for donations of like $5 per person (not sure how they'll be enforced, etc.). I'm waiting to hear back from Craig still to get a little more clarity about both of these issues, as well as to find out what information he requires from the team in terms of registration.

I'll post back to let you know when I hear.

Annie just didn't look tough enough for me (or I hate double unders more than Josh hates his mother-in-law), so I did my own WOD. Difficult enough but was able to stand afterwards.

3 rounds for time of:
9 OHS 95#
21 pullups
15 pushpress 95#
9 DLs 185#

12:39

They are limiting space at CFHobo because its tiny. I've worked out there a few times, more than 20 people in that box is a lot.

CFHobo: They also have a huge tire, over 300lbs I hope they get that involved its pretty sweet.

Kurt,

Regarding the CF Journal article, I would argue (and will shortly) not that the run and the dead lift were relatively insignificant but that the cleans were too significant; or more specifically, that 155 lbs was excessive.

Kevin Prowse,

If you see this, please respond and give me your phone number and email address, if possible. Or if anyone else has either of these pieces of information, please forward it to me.

Thanks,

Zach

Kurt,

You may remember that the day after the games finished I did my own bit of calculation and observed the exact same thing that this article is pointing out.

If you score the games by total time, then the events should all last on average about the same time to achieve an equal "weighting" between events.

It took only a quick glance at the results to see that the average time taken for the 155lb clean and jerk was much greater than the other events and so the final results were skewed in favor of those that did well in this event.

Anyway, i'm glad they finally admitted this and that things will be different next year.

Funny thing is, I immediately thought of you, Sam, when I was reading the article. I remember thinking that the run was underweighted based on the distance even before I knew the results. There just isn't going to be a huge difference in times for a

If they wanted to do a "heavy" workout, they ought to have done a total (either a SS or Olympic), or a max effort lift. From there they could've scored it in relation to bodyweight. That or done like BW clean and jerks for time? I don't know, the whole C&J WOD seemed skewed in my eyes.

It also doesn't help that when I see a red and green plate I think that 90kg is on the bar.

Hari / Court / Allison / Josh --

Is there any sense of when running WODs will be feasible at the box again. Or if there is a way to do them in the meantime (can we hold open the door to the stairs during a running WOD to facilitate and make them doable?)

I really really want to do "McFlurry" tomorrow during the rest day, but it has a lot of running intertwined. Is there any way to do this?

For those that haven't seen it, it is the tribute WOD to Miguel Flores, who was shown today on the main site completing a sub 2:00 Fran (1:57).

See the tribute WOD at the link below. It is named "McFlurry" after Miguel's undying appetite for...McFlurries
