I just had fish buffet for about $50.
I'm hoping to try out some burger selections when I wake up.

Jeff, would you be so kind as to do a "How to pace your dinner" seminar for us on our next Rest Day?

Rest Night Dinner (Tonight)
Friday, September 5 at 8:00 PM (or when you finish up your workout)

Il Passatore
(About 100 yards from Black Box Brooklyn)
Excellent Italian food at very reasonable prices
Outdoor backyard seating, if weather permits

In so far (8): Allison, Audrey, Good Sam, Hari, Jessica, Jim, Juan, Kurt

We've made reservations for 10 and need to adjust up or down by tomorrow. The space is limited, so they need an accurate count.

I'll be heading there at the end of the 7:00 PM Manhattan Rest Day Seminar (on pacing a WOD).

Current Elements Members and Recent Grads are welcome.

I know this isn't Crossfit related, but hey, it's a rest day...

I'm moving. And before you think 'oh, no, not another Uhaul WOD' all I'm writing about is that I have to get rid of all my old furniture and I'd thought I'd offer it up to those within the CF community before random strangers from craigslist get a shot at all this...

Since I'm unable to bring any of it with me to my new apartment I'm doing a good karma give-away. All the following items were passed on to me in very good condition and I'm looking to pass them on one more time and find them a good home, if possible. Most of this is ideal for the recent college grad who just moved into the city and needs some furnishing quickly, just like I did when I first moved here.

Here's what I'm giving away (I can send photos upon request):

* Full size Futon (this has been my living room couch and is in excellent condition)
* Queen size Futon (this has been in my bedroom. I bought a new futon mattress for it when I got the frame 3 years ago)
* 26" Panasonic TV
* Ikea coffee table
* black Ikea Poang chair and matching ottoman (with a new cushion that I bought for it about 8 months ago...link:http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S39840162)
* Air Conditioner (w/ remote...this works very well for a large bedroom to studio apartment)
* White Ikea desk with drawer
* Small dresser
* I also have a number of misc lamps and gadgets that I've collected over the years and need to get rid of as well.

My old apartment is located at 160th and Amsterdam Ave. If you're interested, email me at jruzansky AT gmail DOT com and we can set up a time for you to pick it up!

Feel free to pass on this offer to anyone you know who's in need of some good quality furniture!

yea boi, 5 napkin burger for next rest dinner.

good links today Allison. Won a grueling hockey game at 11pm last night
9-7 with 3 D fir the whole game.

Ate at 5 Napkin on Monday night, and I have to agree with the author of that article. The signature burger was delicious, but don't think it's going to be your typical easy-to-handle burger. The delicious cheese was everywhere, to the point that I basically had no choice but to fork and knife the beast--totally worth it though!

Won't be able to make the rest day dinner tonight, most likely, but have fun guys. See you for some intense (presumably) metcon this weekend!

grip q-and yes i know what our wiki page says

my callouses are insane and i have cracks in my skin right where the fingers meet the hand. i tried to do pullups last night and the pain was so bad i couldnt hold on. I need these to heal super fast. should i use liquid band aid? why dont they make special pull up gloves?

jordan (JO) shoot me an email -i am at michellefoxman@yahoo.com

I love that spinach dish...

Today was not a rest day for me. I did "Mick" from CFFX in Australia, and it was a serious ass kicker.

5 Rounds for time:
9 HSPU
12 KTE
15 Burpee Pullups

12:20. I was SMOKED after this. And Michelle, I second your notion about callouses. My hands are shredded like pulled pork. Krazy glue works well, but isn't a long term solution. I use rubbing alcohol on my feet to toughen them up after long humps, so maybe I will give it a try on the hands.

Re: hands,

I find the people who shred are the ones who constantly regrip.

Some people say they regrip EVERY pullup.

I RARELY, maybe once every 10-20 pullups in a WOD (depending on how fatigued I am), regrip, and I RARELY rip.

Like, rarely as in a couple times a year. And that's in high volume WODs where regripping is necessary.

I guess the stronger your grip, the less you have to regrip, the less you'll rip.

So I guess be conscious of how often you regrip?

Grab that bar TIGHT!!!

I thought Five Napkins was a big letdown. I'm more a Five Guys type of man myself, but I have simple tastes.

Did a half Cindy at lunch. 7 rounds, which I'm actually pleased with.

Has anyone tried the Lugers Burger? I've tried many in NYC over the years. Some come close, but none in my opinion match the Lugers burger. Its not too far from BBB and getting a table for lunch is no problem and its reasonably priced.

Down here in the land where Five Guys started, you can't go more than a few blocks without seeing one. It makes this whole paleo thing kinda hard, but you should see the looks I get when I order 4 patties with bacon, mushrooms, peppers and onions with no buns.

Gabe,

I have a new dream in life.

"Move Sam's Little Sister To Queens" rescheduled for 11 tomorrow. In case there were any of you who were dying to come but thought 9 was too early ;)

Again -- would really appreciate any help. Thanks to the people who have already volunteered!

Shoot me an e-mail if you can help me out! samanthaorme at gmail dot com. Thanks!!

Tippy and I are in for the rest dinner.

God damn that kettlebell video is pathetic...

*siiiiigh* at pop fitness...

Im in to help out with the move.

My burger at 5 Napkin was overcooked. Since it came with a $15 price tag, I think it's completely in my right to have returned it, but I was too hungry to bother. I also had the house burger with the comte and oozy sauce and that almost made it worth it. I'd go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Luger's is probably somewhere in my top 5. You have to go around lunchtime to get it though. To anybody who says weak ass shit like "Why would you go to Luger's and get a burger instead of a steak?" I say, it's less than $10, so get both and you don't have to decide. Seriously, don't come up to me with that sissy crap.

My latest burger was tonight at Hamborgara Bulla, the "burger joint" in Reykjavik. I usually refrain from getting ketchup and mayo, but this time I didn't specify and my burger came slathered in it. It was comparable to one of Wendy's Classic burgers, but the patties were marginally thicker.

Re: Blisters on Hands

I used to use hydrogen peroxide on open blisters and tape my hands. It was the best answer I could find.

thx re hands info-it has never been this bad since i started last december. of course i couldn't grip anything for the first 6 months of crossfit bc i was basically in some form of a band for like every exercise. (is there a band for pushups?). its from the pullups and rings for sure. i am not setting my grip correctly and then i keep turning my hand over the bar and ripping it-sort of the way court showed us last night with the deadlifts. u would think the pavlovian response would be enough but basically what has happened is that i just cant even do those damn pullups my hand bleed so much. i feel like i need to relearn kipping so i dont keep doing it.

my dream in life is now to REGRIP
or RIP
once
MAYBE TWICE
a year.

oh my god gillian that was unreal. it will take me 14:59 just to hail a cab to get down to the box tomorrow . wow. i have never done this and now i am very scared. you are amazing. did i say wow?

I happened to pen several articles on handcare if you're interested. This is the last one and has links to the previous 3 articles.

Procedure for Saturday's ("Linda") WOD:

If you want to do this as RX'd, you need to consider getting there early or staying late. I will be available to start people beginning around 10:00 AM, and I will stay as long as needed.

For the bench press, I see two possibilities: (1) press from the floor, lying on your back--the range of motion is very nearly identical; or (2) we may be able to build a bench using the excess flooring stacked up by the air conditioner.

I'll come knock it out of the way at 10 then, Hari.

how did this go this morning at the box?

after having done the 5 x 3 last night at 8 p.m. at nysc (295, 315, 315, 315, 335 - my previous 1rm was only 340), I attempted linda at 8 a.m. this morning.

bw 180 - so i set up 175 on bench, 225 on dl (back still sore from last night), and 135 for cleans.

i got through the 7 rep round and just bonked hard. i had no energy and a splitting headache so i pulled some weight off all but the clean bar. still, i was done. i had to tap out. this was too much on my low back - i was physically & mentally exhausted and did not want to hurt myself.

on to the next WOD.
