Our upcoming Elements Workshops in both Manhattan and Brooklyn are both filling up rather quickly and several have already sold out. In addition, I adjusted the schedules of a couple upcoming workshops AND added a new Brooklyn Elements Workshop.

2k row - 7:38; raced with Juan and Tagg, and desperately tried to beat Martin but fell short. Great work from everyone at the night class.
I couldn't agree more with the training at the same time of day idea. I feel so much better in the afternoon and suffer so much more training at night / in the morning.
As Crossfitters, I would guess that means we all need to train at as many different times as possible?
I am back in town after spending the weekend upstate with some friends. I spent all of Sunday cheering on a friend during the Lake Placid Ironman Triathlon, reputedly the hardest Ironman around because of the huge changes in elevation during the course. For those not familiar with the sport, the race consists of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike course and then a marathon (26.2 miles). All of this completed in torrential rain and flash floods that lasted from 7:30am till 9pm.
My friend (36/f) finished her first Ironman in less than 14 hours and not only was still standing afterwards, but proceeded to stay up and hang out with everyone, have a celebratory drink and still be awake after I was ready for bed. On top of that she had cut her leg deep enough to need stitches the day before the race in a freak grocery store accident. Nonetheless, she taped up the injury, got in the water and managed to finish in the top 50%. That woman deserves every bit of respect that comes with an Ironman finish and then some.
Some other notable scenes from the race:
-Man with only one arm finishing up the bike course, meaning that he finished the 2.4 mile SWIM with one arm in less than the 2 hour cut off. Can you imagine when the marathon at the end is something to look forward to since you can at least use two limbs for it?
- Bikers wearing nothing but spandex jerseys and shorts, going up a 30 degree incline in the driving rain (enough to make me shiver under an umbrella) with a smiles on their faces.
- I saw a guy who was walking his bike back to the car post-race. In response to my congratulations on completing a great race he says “Me? Hell, you guys have the tough job. I wouldn’t want to stand around in this shit all day.”
Crossfit definition -- "constantly varied, functional movements, performed at relatively high intensity"
The instructors made a distinct point of mentioning at the Level I cert that "constantly varied" should definitely be applied to time of day, temperature/weather, amount/lack of sleep, etc
Crossfit = training for the "unkown and the unknowable"
I am considering doing the CF endurance WoD's now and again for rowing. Would it be possible to come in during the midday class and do that instead of the CF WoD, assuming that the coach doesn't need the rowers for the WoD that day?
Kurt,
You would need to check with the instructor.
Frustrating workout for me. I'm not satisfied. Something went wrong with my form or I did too many warm up reps and got fatigued. Either way here's what happened:
Warm Up:
Row 3k
3 sets of
10 hip extension, 10 GHD sit-ups
Mike's Warm-up
10 x 45 presses
6 x 45 presses
5 x 65 push presses
95 x 5 push jerks
x3 Jerks:
105, 115, 120 x 2 (dropped it, cleaned it, dropped the weight x5) 115, 115
then some work on technique with light weight. 95 I think
I was having major issues with receiving the bar after the first rep after 115. It hurts so much that it makes it hard to reset the bar for the following reps.
My 1RM is STILL 135 and it was a split erk which I'm more comfortable with. The Push jerk is obviously one of my weaknesses. I want to get it up so I can do race with 135 and Jerk the weight up for my OHS. I shouldn't be able to OHS 45# or clean 30# more than I can jerk.
Thanks for trying to help me Mike.
