I haven't been to the Manhattan Box all week. Is it possible to do today's WOD as RXed there?

Jeff,

The loft is being torn down this morning between 7am and 12:30pm classes, which means classes go on as scheduled; however, the new pull-up contraption won't be installed yet so we won't be able to do this WOD exactly as Rx'd.

I'm teaching lunchtime and am planning on subbing dips on the parallettes for the ring dips and perhaps having people partner up for the pistols (i.e., one-legged squats) and for the pullups (subbing partner body rows--these are definitely tougher than pullups if you pull your partner's entire body weight since you can't kip the movement).

I'm open to other suggestions, but this approach seemed a good one to preserve some semblance of the WOD while adapting to our temporarily austere conditions.

For those of you who went to go see the steroid movie, if you don't already regularly check Keith's site, www.crossfitvirtuosity.com, there's a link there to an article about how Christian Boeving lost his job due to his appearance in the movie. Boeving was the fitness model who frankly admitted that he used steroids.

Allison
Sounds good. I'm probably going to try to head to the Brooklyn Box tonight anyway to see if anything needs/can be done.
I agree on the body rows. I recently did ring rows and they got tough real fast since you no longer have the benefit of kipping (and also because rings give you greater range of motion). I also want to add that I'd like to see more rows in WODs. We work on vertical pulling all the time in pull ups, and it makes me wonder if we need more horizontal pulling to offset the push ups we do.

Jeff (and anybody else planning on doing the 6 or 7pm WOD):

Please check the update above that I added. Mike's going to teach the classes tonight at Chelsea Park. Just meet there instead of at the Box.

Thanks.

"You're wasting your time, Brian. I'm not going to look at it."

I'm in for Brian's dinner as well, Michelle.

Is anyone thinking of going up to Fishkill on the 21st for Robzilla's opening? I heard this crazy rumor that you can take the train there, but if not I could fit 4 people besides myself into my tiny car. It's about a 2-hour drive.

28th 28th 28th between 9+10 street!!

Coach P
Are you bringing the rings?

Further Fishkill information:

* Fishkill is a 10 minute drive from the Beacon Metro-North station.
* Trains leave Grand Central about once an hour, and it takes about 90 minutes to get there.
* There is an 11.45 train getting into Beacon at 1.10.
* The round-trip fare is $24, unless you can pass yourself off as a child.
* Cabs and car rental are available at the Beacon station to get us to Fishkill.
* Return trains also run about on the hour (alternating between :48 and :50.)

I think taking the train is probably wiser than driving, 'cause driving kinda sucks, and this way we can travel en masse even if more than 4 people want to come along.

Michelle - count me in for Brian's dinner.

Ah, to be leaving for college again...

Yeah Jeff, bringing rings, and there are fixed bar dips as well.

And there are two seal sprinklers for after!

Definitely in on the Brian Sendoff.

Doing all this Zone eatin' means it's going to be even cheaper for me to get to Certs!

im in for fishkill.

jeff im in for this kinda fight club.
no masks though. or at least actual fighting face rigs.

"Higher Education"

Jeff, I'd also join that kind of fight club, though I'd rather not have to beat anyone down with a ladies magazine (rolled around brass tubing or otherwise)

I just want to commend Allison on her unfailing commitment to witty blog titles.

Martin - Best to be prepared! Life during Fashion Week - especially when the Fall Lines are unveiled - can be brutish and short and if you're not prepared to take someone down with, say, that nearby Paris Vogue. Twist that puppy up without consideration of the perfume inserts and you won't even be able to fight your way to the champagne glass pyramid in the foyer tent. You didn't hear it from me, but I've heard that Anna Wintour wears those sunglasses so folks don't see the scars from that dust-up at Versace's Spring back in '94 when they rolled into Bryant for the first time.

Remember - "clashing" doesn't just happen between the seasonal color swatches of the models and their clothes.

Moon - Just because I'd rather not doesn't mean that I can't or won't, so consider yourself forewarned!

Worst. Shirt. Ever.

jeff- hilarious.

"Brian- dude don't worry- I hid the stepstool behind the plates so it won't show up in the picture"

brian - look Juan how you like this squat
juan- yeah,rigth

Jack Bauer-- that shirt will make it very easy to kiss one of "the guns" but what about the other?

Shockingly, the loft hadn't been fully removed by 12:30pm when it was time for me to teach class. I asked the troops how they wanted to proceed, and we all agreed on Chelsea Park, so that we could take rings with us and have pullup bars, rings for dips, parallel bars for dips, and 20" high cement stools from which to do pistols.

The weather was decent and the shade helped, too. Class went well and I even got to preach the CrossFit gospel a bit to a handful of young men who were doing quarter pullups and were discussing our strange pullups while they were "resting."

Fastest time was Bert with 22 minutes; last person finished at 27 minutes and change.

P.S.: I spoke with the porter of our building an hour ago and he said that the loft has now been completely removed, so we're good for classes tonight and tomorrow, etc.

I can't make it to Brians dinner, but I wish you the best of luck and to have a great time in your first semester!

Regarding Crossfit Fishkill:

- It's technically in Hopewell Junction, but lies on the border of both towns. It would probably be better to take the train to New Hamburgh. It's only one stop past Beacon.

- If I get a head count then I can try to figure something out in the ways of transportation to get you to and back from the gym.

- The trains leave the New Hamburgh station on the hour (X:43) and run until 11pm so there's no fear of missing a train home.

- I'm living with my parents so I can't offer my place to stay but if you want to stay overnight then there are plenty of hotels nearby. Google "Fishkill Hotels".

Whatever you decide to do just let me know and I'll work something out so it's smooth. I'd love to see as many of you there as possible because truth be said I'm having some Black Box withdrawl.

You can keep me updated by emailing either rteganATgmail.com or crossfitfishkillAtgmailDOTcom.

Lastly I would also like to thank everyone for their continuous well wishes and support while I open this up. It's kinda nerver racking and knowing that you guys believe in me has really helped me out a ton.

so thank you, A LOT.

anyone at the box ever have a mild case of rhabdo? if so what were ur symptoms. thx.

Michelle,

"Pain, tenderness, weakness and edema (swelling) of the affected muscles may be present."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomyolysis

You'll usually find pain in the affected region. It has been my experience from anecdotal readings that the pain is usually positively correlated with the severity of Rhabdo. Minor pains = little rhabdo. Major pains = big rhabdo.

I hope whomever you are asking for is just sore, but if the pain continues or is so severe that they can barely move then get to the hospital right away!

Thanks for the link!
