In case you hadn't already noticed by the changes in the sidebar to the left, Black Box Brooklyn has now joined us in the blogosphere. In addition to posting the WOD each day, they're giving us updates on the progress made thus far. I'm hoping they'll start posting some of their Flickr pictures to their blog as well (hint, hint). Soon comments will be turned on over there as well. But in the meantime, go over and check it out.

If you're a beginner who's been sampling Black Box free beginners' classes in Manhattan, you're more than welcome to give them a try in Brooklyn as well.

And if you're already a member of CrossFit NYC: The Black Box, you're entitled to head on over to Brooklyn and check out open-gym hours. Membership at The Black Box applies to both our midtown Manhattan and our Williamsburg, Brooklyn locations. If you have any questions about any of this, leave them in the comments and/or email me at allison AT crossfitnyc DOT com.

Anyone know what the font for the Crossfit Logo is?

I'd like to point out that the Box out in Williamsburg is way cooler than Manhattan.

Seriously, is that A/C in Manhattan operating yet?

Ah, yes, Jeff--let the Manhattan-vs.-Brooklyn rivalry begin!

(And on a serious note, check the next Rest Day Discussion by Hari for an update on the A/C situation at Black Box Manhattan...)

Yeah, we have nature's AC... Otherwise known as 2 big-ass doors.

Though its not quite as exciting as the types of races Kurt mentioned yesterday, I'm planning on doing a triathalon in a few months. I do not currently have a bike and was wondering where I should start doing some research as to what would best suit my needs. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Brendan- Is it a regular tri or off road? I don't know anything about road bikes, but an entry level hard tail mtn bike (meaning front suspension, but no rear) will run you between 225 and $500, depending on where you buy and what you want. I would recommend doing a little research, then going to 3 or 4 bike stores and have them recommend bikes based on your requirements. Go with the best combination of price and feel, as you will probably be going back to them for tune-ups and fixes. Fit is really important, so definitely take everything for a test ride before you even think about buying. Look at the different categories of bikes on line, so you can actively discuss what you want with the salesperson.

Oh, and don't make my mistake and wait till a couple weeks before so you have to take whatever is in stock. ;)

Thanks Kurt, it's a regular sprint triathalon so I'm going to need a road bike. I'll do some research and get myself into a bike shop next chance I get.

Road bikes are generally a more expensive beast. The main determinants of price are the frame and the drive train components. Unless you're looking at a significant budget (carbon or titanium frame starting at about $1300) you're probably going to want an aluminum frame with a carbon fork and mid-range shimano components. I would expect to be spending about $600-$1000 (maybe less if you can find something in the right size on Craigslist.) As Kurt said, make sure you test ride it before you buy!

Yes, Fight Gone Bad is up tomorrow -- ROCK!

Don't know what size you are, but I have a road bike for sale. It basically has a 1/4 of a mile on it as thats about how long it took before I fell and broke my rib. Anyways, bought it in 2005 from SBR sport and its a Felt F80 Road Bike, with Shimano SPD clipless pedals, aero drink set-up, Century aero bars, and all original bike components (Shimano). I'm 6' and it was fitted for me. Anyways, let me know if you are interested, or anyone else for that matter.

Also, great beginners class in Brooklyn tonight. We are looking to have a few superstars once we can get some Elements out there and regular WODs out there!!!!

Nice work Brett! I had a feeling that getting hit by a truck wouldn't stop you from being a beast.

Couldn't do the snatch workout in Brooklyn, so, given that we had just received a magical dynamax Medball, I decided on this:
3 rounds
20 Wallballs
50 situps

8:13

Felt really slow, partly because I did about 40 wallballs before I started, while just playing around with the new med ball, partly because of yesterday's workout:

21-15-9
16kg swings each arm
Clean, press, OHS the "Bone" (slosh pipe)

~17 minutes.

Posting a little late but I'm impressed with my lifts since I've been away for so long

I really am happy with this because my PR is 210 and considering I've had a 3-4 month layover, this is outstanding. Hopefully I can start to make it there with the rest of you guys soon

Great work today everyone!! Awesome work on the snatches, Brett and Adam. I wanted to do it this morning @ the 7am class, but couldn't get out of bed. My calves are killing me from the 5K. Standing at work all day was torture. Must run MORE!!
