I wanted to mention that for the past two weeks the Black Box has been honored to provide a place for our new friend Bert to train. Bert's a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps who recently returned from his second deployment to Iraq. It was on his second tour of duty that he discovered CrossFit and, in his own words, "became addicted." Our CrossFit gym is the first place he's been able to do WODs with all requisite equipment (well, except for those pullup bars that are on their way any day now) and with certified instruction.
He's currently stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where the closest affiliate is an hour away. So while he was here in NYC for two weeks he got his first chance to work out at an affiliate. Not all of you got to meet him, but for those of us who did, let me just say on everyone's behalf that it was an honor to meet you and train with you. Thanks for all you've done for our country.
That's Bert in the middle, on the rower

And here's Bert in Iraq, receiving a certificate of appreciation from Mayor Raffa of Ramanah. He worked together with the mayor for seven months to help improve his sub-district.

P.S.: Bert mentioned to me that when he was stationed in Iraq that he would always be sure to read our blog when he had free time and that he loved the articles we posted. I've been hearing similar sentiments from readers who've left comments. In addition, Kevin W., who just got back from a Level 1 cert said at least 20 people said the same thing to him.
We here at CrossFit NYC appreciate the fact that our blog has become so popular and we just want to encourage everyone to keep coming back and leave comments, whether it's how you did on the WOD or what you think of a particular article. Even if you can't train with us in person, you can train with us in spirit.

Brooklyn crew,
I would very much like to do this WoD in Williamsburg so the run portion is actually a run. I would assume Erica, Justin and Sam are going to be out there. Anyone else up for enjoying this WoD on the streets of BK?
Repost of Michelles inquiry from last night:
Michelle,
"Pain, tenderness, weakness and edema (swelling) of the affected muscles may be present."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomyolysis
You'll usually find pain in the affected region. It has been my experience from anecdotal readings that the pain is usually positively correlated with the severity of Rhabdo. Minor pains = little rhabdo. Major pains = big rhabdo.
I hope whomever you are asking for is just sore, but if the pain continues or is so severe that they can barely move then get to the hospital right away!
I'll probably be out there and I'll likely try the running. No GHD for the situps though...:(
i'll be there with bells on.
Although Erica is stirring up trouble by suggesting we do a wod called "I love Burpees"
10 to 1 of Gi Janes, Box Jump Burpees, Burpee Side Jumps... so 165 burpees in total..
I'll be out there as well... Hmmm, burpees or Micheal. Thats like picking between being kick in the nuts or punched in the nuts.
Allison, are you going to be at the Box tonight. I need to give you my updated CC info.
I found a place for the box to source big tires...

sam , erica , justin- r u guys going to make it to brian's going away party?
"Thats Bert in the middle"
hehe. I don't think the caption was really necessary.

Michelle, i'll be there.
What time are the Brooklyn folks doing the WOD - 6PM?
Also, if anyone is interested, I am going to see Kevin's show tonight. It's @ Centerstage, NY; 48 West 21st Street Between 5th and 6th at 8PM. If Kevin is as good at acting as he is Crossfit, it should be a killer show.
Tom
I believe Justin is scheduled to open up Brooklyn at 6. Erica and Sam are also on the bill to make an appearance. I myself have not decided where I'm going to be.
Tom- I will be at the BBB around 6:30 to do Michael.
23:40
First time running in the 9 weeks since my accident. Felt pretty ok. My time was about the same as every other time I've done this.
Michael- 17:44. PR subbed 45# good morning
This is a 40 second PR and achieved my goal of a sub-18. Good work to Juan, who pulled a sub 20 with a kettlebell good morning.
Of course, I felt like my workout was a little anemic after I watched Sam, Erica and Moon bust out a five round Kettlebell hell, each round being 100 reps of various types of KB movements. That was down right impressive.
