Manhattan

Our temporary Manhattan location at 39 West 38 Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues) will open at 7:00 AM Monday morning. (Thank you to all those who helped Court, Mike, Josh, Allison, and me move on Sunday: Andrew, Kevin W., Tom M., Jeff, Chadron.)

We have some work in front of us, getting the space fully operational. Today is an official Rest Day on the main site. Our instructors will use all the resources available to make you appreciate the simple joy of being able to breathe.

Jacinto will run the 7:00 AM WOD classes Monday thru Friday.

Allison will run the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12:30 classes.

Court will run the 12:30 Tuesday and Thursday classes, the Monday and Friday 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM WOD's and the Monday, Friday 8:00 PM Elements course.

Josh will run the Wednesday 6:00PM and 7:00 PM WOD classes, the Wednesday 8:00 PM, Saturday Noon Elements course, the Saturday 10:00 AM Beginners' and 11:00 AM WOD class.

Mike will run the Tuesday and Thursday 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM WOD classes, the Sunday 10:00 AM Beginner's class, and 11:00 AM WOD class.

Hari will run the Tuesday and Thursday 8:00-9:30PM Open Gym.

We will also be fully engaged in getting the Certificate of Occupancy for the permanent Manhattan space, and will keep you informed on our progress.

Brooklyn

At 8:00 PM on Wednesday, those of you who are or will soon be Level I certified and are interested in helping to bring the Brooklyn location fully on-line are invited to meet with Court and Hari to plan the details.

Friday Rest Night Dinner

This Friday, June 6, the Rest Night Dinner will be at the Black Box temporary location. Pizza, beer and wine will be provided. All members and all Elements students are invited.

Personal Note

Thank you all for my birthday dinner and for the gifts. I especially thank my dear friend Michelle for putting it all together.

I had a wonderful evening and cannot think of any other people I would rather have celebrated with.

What is the max number of people allowed per Element class?

I wondered what happened on Sunday. I don't have internet at home, so I just showed up for the WoD class at 11am and waited around for 10 or 15 minutes. When it was clear that no one was coming, I went to the local park, did an improvised workout and went home. I probably ended up running by the Cardboard box about 11:35 or so. Damn.

Since I was by myself and wanted to play on the faux rock climbing wall in Cooper park (the little park we run by to do the 400s), I devised this to let work on my climbing while still having a crossfit feel:

"Mini-Cindi on the Rocks"
AMRAP 10 minutes
1 round= 5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 squats.
Catch is, all exercises have to be performed hanging on the rock wall and roughly correlate to the normal angle to the ground. Meaning that pull ups and squats have to go up and down, while push ups have to be horizontal. As the rock wall has uneven hand and footholds, this results in a much different body movement from the normal exercise and an incredible grip workout. Ended up with 4 rounds, but a lot of that time was spent trying to find the proper hold pattern. Also, grip quickly gave out as all three exercises require your hands to be holding something that isn't shaped like a bar.

Sorry I wasn't around to help move. I would have been there if I knew about it.

Fred,

Elements Classes are currently limited to eight students.

Kurt did you make it to the Saturday WOD the morning after the bull riding?

Also, isn't Kirez Reynolds a porn star?

Hari, I'm having difficulty signing up for tonight's late wod class. Mind-Body has a class listed at 6:45-7:30...but there seems to be a payment issue-sign up problems.

Jeff- Yeah, I made it out to that travesty of thrusters and double unders. I was the only one who made it out from the after-party crew, but I also bounced out early, sometime around 3 am. The bar was a good time and I somehow managed to not damage my suit.

Bret_nyc (and anyone else having difficulties registering),

We're a bit behind on our computer work.

Keep trying each day, but assume that as long as the problem remains on our end you will be fine.

Is the Wednesday meeting for the Brooklyn Box going to be at the Manhattan space?

cheap dumbbells. close weight to 1.5 1 and 1/2 pod kb.

Justin,

We'll probably go somewhere off-site, since an Elements class will be in session, but we can meet at the Manhattan location.

Anyone interested in doing 200 burpees for time tonight?

Incidentally it's a jailhouse 19 and a half :)

Just an FYI, the pic I just now posted above is a view from the loft at the back of 39 W. 38th St. We're having that loft torn out ASAP (i.e., in the next couple of days) to make more room for workouts. But it does make for a great vantage point to get pictures. I took a couple from up there today when I was teaching the 12:30 class.

was great coming to work out again at the lunch time class-jon and martin kicked ass. keith kicked my ass.

jacinto made up this nasty workout
for time

row 500m
40 kb swings (men 24, women 12)
30 pushups
row 400m
30 kb swings
15 pushups
row 300m
20kb swings
10 pushups
row 200m
10 kb swings
5 pushups

not sure I got the number of pushups right in this post

anyway 19:22 as rx'd.

fun.
thx Allison and guys for rooting me on. I felt like the little engine that could. especially when keith was done in 11 minutes. well it was nice to have a partner for 1/2 the workout.

Thanks Michelle. It was fun working out with you for the first 11 minutes and 45 seconds. Then I had to rest. Maybe if I wear my Fat Pig shirt next time you'll feel motivated to go faster.

Who'd like to see Bigger, Stronger, Faster this week, Wed or Thurs? After then it's gone.

Either the AMC 9:15p or Landmark 7:30p:

AMC Empire 25 - 234 West 42nd St
6:50, 9:15pm

Landmark Sunshine Cinema - 143 East Houston Street
7:30, 9:55pm

Court that's the best video ever!

Made up Sunday's Clean/sit-up WOD this morning:

135lb cleans, high incline anchored sit-ups

21:35

Compared to Saturday, the cleans were marginally easier/faster than the thrusters overall, but the sit-ups were way broken up and inherently slower than the double-unders.

I'll be seeing you at the Manhattan temp space soon!

Did Jaciento's rowing thing as RX'd. 15:20

Then did 2.85 miles(laps around my apartment building) 21:10

~13:54 on Jacinto's WOD

Andrew I'd like to see the movie, but I'd like to be at that Wednesday meeting.

16:30 for Jacinto's wod. with a 24k bell. All the rows after the 1st were abysmal.

God damn it felt good to work out hard.

I'm glad that the box in back in Manhattan. Sadly I tweaked by back doing so many GHD sit-ups, but I should be rejoining the 7AM crew early next week.

15:33 for the Jacinto WOD. I played football in Florida for years, and I don't think I was as hot as I was today. On the bright side, I know what I have to look forward to when I do crossfit in Hell.

Tyler- it only works if you are both a big fat pig AND are wearing the tank top. had that been the case i would have rowed the c2 out the door.

in any event it was very gentlemanly of you to stop after 11 minutes or so in order for me to have more room to sweat and curse. it made the last 8 minutes for me much more bearable.

jacintos wod
like 24:?? i think
subbed x2 double-unders for the pushups

17:33 for jacintos WOD-subbed sdlhp for the rowing though.

Jacinto's WOD:

13:39 minutes

(12 kg swings & knee push ups)

I can barely raise my arms over my head today.
