Hey, kids. Just got an update from Josh that he's expecting to get a hand-off of keys to the new, temporary space in LIC at 5pm. So it looks like the soonest we could possibly have classes would be tomorrow (Tuesday, May 6th) in the evening. Hopefully sooner, possibly later, but most likely in about 24 hours from now. Unloading of the equipment will go extremely quickly as it's just a matter of backing up the moving van into the space (which is ground floor and has a garage door) and pulling stuff out. We won't wait to have all equipment set up before we start teaching classes. We want to get things up and running ASAP, so we'd do some sort of modified WOD if need be until assemblage of the pullup bar, etc, can be done.

Thanks again for your patience, and please just keep checking the blog for fresh info as to when we will be ready to see your smiling faces.

Josh gave me the address for the new temp space (as seen above in the Google map), so that should be the place to be once we're ready to go. As you can see from the map, both the 7 and G trains are nearby, as is the beautiful state park. I went walking along the waterfront in Long Island City today--it's gorgeous, with amazing views of Manhattan.

P.S.: We want to resume our regular schedule of free beginners' classes (Wednesdays at 6pm, Saturdays at 10am) as well as Elements Workshops, so please keep your eyes here on the blog for info on both of those things. Once the LIC version of the Box is open, we'll definitely resume free beginners' classes. Scheduling Elements may be a bit more complicated but do check here periodically for info and/or email me at allison AT crossfitnyc DOT com if you want to be added to the email list for info about Elements. Danke shein.

Glad to hear the packing and moving went ok. I wanted to help out but ended up spending the weekend painting my apt and building Ikea stuff for time. Put together and Expedit bookcase sub 10.

So what is the timetable like for moving into the new-new space. Is it like 2-3 weeks..or like 2-3 months?

Currently the estimate is 2-3 weeks to a month at most to prep the new permanent space for move in. The new temporary space is ours to inhabit for a month. There's no guarantee on this timeframe of when the new perm space will be ready, of course, but that is our best estimate so far.

We promise to keep you all posted on how things are proceeding on the new permanent space, so at least if there is slippage in that time frame, we'll be keeping you informed of it in the moment. We will do our best to keep everything transparent as we know our members deserve nothing less. Thanks.

hi guys

Hari and I might meet at mid city tomorrow evening around 7 to do the workout. I have a set of rings-only one-but if you are willing to wait to use them its no problem at all. I will confirm later in the day.

Mid City Gym is at 49 Street just east of Eighth Avenue.

Check out the video link today on

for Melanie Roach and her road to Bejing as an Olympic Weightlifter. Truly inspiring:)

Brett-

The holdup right now with the (permanent) new space is a zoning permit - apparently, we need to a permit to perform business as a 'Physical Culture Establishment' as a rider to our Certificate of Occupancy before we can start construction.

Talking to the lawyers, it sounds like we should at least get a temporary permit this week. Once we do, we can start knocking down walls. Fortunately, it's a lot easier to take walls out than to put them in, and we should be able to finish wrecking in a week, then re-dry-walling and re-painting in another week.

So, in short, two to three weeks.

Hope that helps,

j

Jack the motivator Bauer just completed a six mile run in under 50 minutes last night. It was the first time he ever executed a distance greater than 5K so he deserves some congratulations. Not only did he not walk once during the run, he ran faster on the back half than he did on the first.

Guys

If anybody is looking to do some one-on-one sessions, I can train people out of Mid City Gym or go to the park, or to your apartment. Email me for details if you want to book some sessions.

short ny Times article about Iditarod dogs and their endurance.

Greg, did the running tech with Brian&Brian lend a hand (or is it foot) to the speed?

How did your legs feel afterwards?

So you shave your head because its aerodynamically efficient while running.

Good run bro. That's an impressive time for your first 10k.

Thanks for the shoutout Brendan but definitely wouldn't have done it without you motivating me in the Crossfit way-basically calling me names when I wanted to quit.

My knees are sore but overall I feel good. Metcons and squats kept my legs going strong! My endurance surprised me.

Big shoutout to Brian Harkins and Smallville. Heel striking would have murdered my knees on those trails. POSE really came through. I was tired and a bit sore ONLY because I wasn't used to running such a long distance. Good coaching-money well spent.

And yes, Michelle-cocktail legs are now on the menu!

yummmmm Cocktail Dogs
lol make it stop.

Josh-out of curiousity-what did the old C of O say the place was licensed for? I am curious what the legal euphamism for illegal massage parlour is and find it even more ironic that basically it is taking several weeks to convert an illegal place into a legal place. Well those lawyers have to earn their keep somehow.

Elizabeth done with Michelle at Mid City:

11:50 Sub 105 lb Power Clean

Michelle was in rare form tonight. She's going to have a muscle-up this year.

Thanks Hari- could not have done it without your coaching!
first time with Elizabeth-
used 55lb-should have used 65
negative dips where feet could touch floor-Hari encouraged me to graduate and not do the 2:1 jumping ring dips.
