So we've decided to opt against a park workout for tomorrow (Saturday, May 10) because of the rain and cold.
Tomorrow we'll be having our free Beginner class at 10am and our regular workout of the day class at 11am. Josh will be teaching both.
(Please note, we're still waiting on electricity and water for the gym, so do consider yourself warned. We'll be sure to let everyone know when each of those is up and running in case you're waiting for those amenities before coming by for a workout.)

4m run
35:03
Just to clarify, both of those classes are happening at 817 Metropolitan, a block from the Graham St. L stop.
Off to run/hike/trudge 50k on the muddy trails of Long Island...
Yesterday: "Baby Girl Diane" (saving myself for USTA tennis match today)
21-15-9 DL 185/Press 75
5:30-ish (had to restart watch).
Shoulder press was actually pretty hard.
Don't laugh.
I can hear you laughing.
Cool Ewen, that looks like a good recovery sub.
Staci, let us know how you do. Have fun! (I know you are probably running at this moment, still, hope ur having fun!)
Had a great time at dinner last night - thanks Hari for pulling the reservations together.
And to Jeff and Erica - in reference to Virginia Beach - I signed up for that 'ish this morning, boo ya! So get on that right away. And Juan, you coming along for the road trip?
Anyone else interested in going to the Virginia Beach cert? If nothing else, it's a weekend in Virginia Beach...
since when are electricity and running water amenities? if you said we were waiting for the sauna and the free massages to be up and running i would understand. :)
fran at nysc - terrible 8:50. over 2 minutes off my best time.
A surprisingly large crew this morning, both for the beginner's class, and for the WOD class.
Apparently, water or electricity are optional after all.
Im signed up too Tom!
Congrats on moving guys!
Best of luck with crossfit performances and business!

if anyone wants to do fran tomorrow at mid city gym i am going there to humiliate myself at around noon.
nice stroy from midcity. I am meeting hari there on Friday-I am already a veteran-my second time there. But clearly they don't "know me" yet.
I am standing at the counter waiting to pay my daily rate for the filth and grime
The "lady" at the desk stares at me blankly-you are here for a tan right?
mortified i say-"well no , though I am absolutely sure I could use a tan, I am ACTUALLY here to work out.
"oh sorry doll".
I told her it was the equivalent of asking an overweight woman how many months along she was and her having to tell you "no I am not pregnant I am just fat."
though I will say hari and I were the only people doing HSPUs at that gym. even if you needed sunglasses to look at me i am so pale.
Hey Michelle, I'm in for Hari's dinner too.
count me in michelle.
J and I will be there. Wouldn't miss Hari's 50th for anything!
thx guys!
im in michelle.
funny story:
i had to fill in on the east side club this weekend, which is grand because i need the money. All went well on thurs, but friday as i was attempting (at 5:30 am, no less) to collect the final 2 house fee's i had a conflict with one of the girls. In my effort to stop her from leaving the dressing room i put my arm up to block her way and she bit me. Im not kidding. She f****** bit me on the arm. This one goes in the records.
good thing i thrive on drama ;)
btw michelle, im a little bit offended that u put the couples together and everyone else single. like, just because im not in a relationship im one half of a person. Shame on you!
:)
bit by a stripper?
http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/zombiestrippers/
hmm. Moon touched on this subject of the zombie invasion late friday night. I wonder now if the zombies are in fact coming.
:)
im so buying a shotgun.
probably get some singles, just in case.
marisela-
i had to do it that way because all of us who are going solo have to sit at a special kiddie table in the back where we have a buffet. its only the couples who get waiter service. so i really needed to know that.
:)
actually i didn't want to put down brian's plus one as a
plus one on her own so its the only way i could keep track of it.
Yes!!!! The Zombie Strippers are here! Ive been waiting for this. Now all this training will finally pay off. Oh yeah, Im getting a shot gun as well.
ROFLMAO!!!!!!! Zombie Strippers. How did I miss that movie last month? Did it go straight to video?
Next rest day, I will be upset if our Box WOD is not named Zombie Strippers.
michelle
count me in for hari's dinner

The World's Healthiest 75-Year-Old Man
great article
Juan - I am always willing to touch on the subject of zombies. Remember - the Mayan Calendar "runs out" on 21 December 2012. :)
Marisela - You just had a close call and I hope you realize it. As much as I respect your employment of Tony Blauer's Startle/Flinch principles in attempting to halt the progress of the dancer, I honestly do not believe that his approach is optimal in dealing with the reanimated legions of the undead. While I have not spoken to Tony about this, I notice that he seems very focused on direct one-on-one encounters with even semi-rational "perps", giving little or even no mention of how to evade and survive the closing in of masses of rotting, insatiable corpses for whom even the breakage or even loss of a limb is an ignored factor in their never-ending pursuit of the consumption of warm, living flesh.
Hey - and whose brain does a mindless servant of Hell have to eat to get a site update around here? Not demanding real estate info - just turn the page by posting today's WOD.
im way more needy and demand pics of the cardboard box.
Zombie Strippers- Are they fast zombies or Romero zombies? Also, are they strippers who have become zombies or are they zombies who also strip? The latter is far more disquieting than the former. I never though crossfit would raise these questions for me.
Michelle- I'm in on the birthday party/dinner.
Is there open gym at the Cardboard box, yet? I am not sure how early I can make it over there, so want to know what the cut off point is for showing up. Thanks.
mortifying fran:
who knew that adding 13 lbs and having to clean off the floor would result in adding 2minutes and 40 seconds to my already pathetic Fran time?
not me!
first attempt on 3/31/08
52 lbs and kipping: 13:49
second attempt at fran today 3/12/08
65lbs, kipping pullups.
done in midcity (with no tan)
16:20!@!!!
lost a good minute or more on the cleans (aka drops to the floor)
all I can say is that I didnt woos out. still sad.
and that it was pretty funny having all these guys asking me if i needed help carrying the 45 lb barbell to my station. And some guy who was next to me while I was warming up said my shoes were "cool" and I then asked if he had any chalk and he "explained" to me that I should not use chalk bc as i got "better" with the weights I would develop something called callouses on my hands
and then he showed me his-
at which point i said oh, u mean like THESE?
and flashed him my gross hands.
Slightly mortified he said, well "good for you!"
He didnt have anything left to say after I did Fran. In fact he was nowhere to be found.
"good for him!"
Hari-can you come back and help me find the athlete you had been working with last week. She has left the premises!
EXCUSE ME!!! Has anyone dealt with the fact that Marisela was bitten by the Zombie Stripper and as a direct result will soon be one of the marauding undead herself?!!! I say on your next encounter with her, approach with caution...Marisela, I'm sure the infection rate is compressed in movie-land and that there are varying degrees of immunity but before your mind is taken over with the ravening, unending need for blood, brains or whatever it is you zombies are into now days, would you mind telling us if you are a fast or slow zombie so that we can take the right safe distance and moderate our response posed by your Nightwalker threat?
Michelle,
Those squatting cages at Mid City can also be used to rack the bar.
Going from 52 lbs to 65 lbs is a very big deal (a 25% increase!). It's like going from a band to straight kipping. You are now doing Fran as RX'd, and there is no going back. Congratulations!
Great job Michelle, and thank you for talking me out of going to Mid-City Gym in the near future.
Michelle - Way to kick up the weight with only a minor increase in time. Your tan-free awesomeness truly knows no bounds!
Court - I'm not willing to put Marisela down yet - not until we know for sure if she was bitten by one of the Infected (and in this context, I mean zombie-pathogen infected. Other ailments that the dancer may have been suffering from are outside the scope of this post...)
As an aside, this is where the widespread use of homemade IFF tools amongst the living, such as the use of salvaged heartbeat monitors, will be critical. For example, the person wearing one without a beep (or blinking LEDs operating in either the visible or IR spectrum, depending on circumstances) will be considered suspect and likely subject to immediate... retirement.
Here's a good audio short story on something like this...:) http://pseudopod.org/2007/05/11/pseudopod-037-we-are-all-very-lively/
Congrats michelle on doing Fran as rx'd. Hari, great work on Fran as well(pr?).
Fran
5:30 rx'd cleaned from floor
Did Fran as a makeup today at the Globo by my house.
45 seconds slower than last time.I miss the bumper plates. Cleaning from the floor those few extra inches didn't seem like a big deal until I got into it with Fran.
As far as pullup bars, they had the giant cable crossover /cable row contraption with the pullup handles in between. Those things were terrible. They were at "ergonomically friendly" angles but still wide apart. Then when I was in the first round, even with moderate kipping the entire contraption started to rattle and make all types of noises. That made me a bit self conscious. I miss that Black Box pullup bar.:(
Kevin-I looke dat my watch after I finsihed the first set of 21 kips and it read 5:15
so u could have done 3 frans in my full time to do one.
nice!
I love when that thing rattles and makes noise. its hilarious. people start to move away pretty fast. i actually like using the handles better. but alas someone was on it today and I had to use some slippery ass makeshift excuse for a pullup bar. no grip ability on this . it was spray coated with Pam or soemthing.
