As per the usual, our CrossFit instructors will be choosing the workout for you since it's a rest day on the main site. So come on out to 817 Metropolitan and get some!
What's that spell? C-R-O-S-S-F-I-T-N-Y-C!

The tiles never stood a chance

The last WOD ever at the Box, Version 1.0: Brendan and George do 50 burpees for time on the day of the move

For those that use cars in NYC, useful site:

Damn geena. If my math is correct, my shoulders have never felt pain like 1 day of 21-15-9 thruster/KB followed by 1 day of 3x7 OHS. I'll be sitting this day out too. Maybe rest days can include massages for time... Anyone?
I just took a look at the updated Trainers section of the website and I found this under Hari's bio:
"I have an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University and an MBA from Columbia. Thus, I understand both how the electricity at Black Box works and why we need to pay the electric bill."
Hari, I know you are busy running one of my favorite L.I. institutions, but you think you could lend the Box some know-how and get our lights working? ;)
If I understand what Court told me, Con Ed finally responded to the pleas for power by saying that since the place had been w/o power for so long (04?), it now has to be inspected by an electrician to certify that the wiring is still good. That is supposed to happen today. Then ConEd has to verify the inspection. Then the lights can go back on.
Although really, we don't need no stinkin' lights. Thanks to Juan's persuading the FDNY to saw a jammed lock off of the garage door, Court, Erica, Hari, Juan and I were able to build out, move and position the pullup apparatus with just a small flashlight and spillover light from the gas station across the street.
I hope Con Ed gets this together soon though. Every time I've gone out there and seen Court diligently cleaning and arranging (it's SO much better and cleaner now than Day One) I feel like I'm walking into a live-action version of the second Wall-E teaser.
Moon is absolutely correct - or, at least, his account squares with what the fine folks at Con Ed told me yesterday.
On the bright side, we have a plumber coming by today, so while we may be standing around in the dark, we'll soon no longer have to do so with full bladders.
Any clue as to what the WOD is tonight and what time might someone be there?
Justin
Are you going to be at the pier tonight?
Hold onto your hats and cross your fingers, y'all -- this site's going BLACK.
(I hope, anyway.)
Sam- I really like it. I always wondered why the BLACK box had a white website or a red one. The left pane is much better too. I hate having to hunt for the mindbody thing everytime I want to sign up for a class.
Side note- without electricity and no dues this month, should we still be signing up on that thing?
Notes on the new site look:
- If it looks really screwy, try shift+ctrl+R (i.e. shift-reload)
- If you find something that still looks weird, or you have a suggestion, please let me know at samanthaorme at gmail dot com
Some of the pages may look like the old site hit the new site head-on for a little while -- there are a ton of entries and it's taking Movable Type a little while to churn through reformatting all of 'em. So hold off for another 15 minutes or so!
Probably not going to the pier tonight due to work schedule today.
mmm new threads.
i like.
Regarding the new location, I'm a bit worried about the intangibles, like whether there will be a $13 a cut/shave barbershop downstairs
No worries Carlos. I'll cut your hair for $5.
Oh how cool is this site!??! Awesome you guys!
The only thing that would make it better is pictures of me! And taking down that U-G-L-Y front squat pic. yikes!
I'm going to try for 15 bodyweight in a day or two.
Jeff- I'm pretty sure you'd have it no problem. You have so much strength and pretty low bodyweight. But then again I've never seen your OHS.. it could suck ;) Find a place you can toss the weight and go for it!!!
Wow! A new location and a new site design! Looks awesome guys! Hope you get everything situated soon. BTW, I hit Pukie Brewster a few weekends back. It was great and terrible at the same time. Thanks for posting that.
so i see the web page is fixed. the comments section is a little too black in some areas, email address area, url, remember personal info. It looks very cool. I like the rotating pictures at the top.
Rest Day WOD for time was:
10-1 Kettlebell Thrusters (16 kg/12 kg)
1-10 Pull ups
10 Overhead Walking Lunges with Kettlebell (alternate arms each round)
First workout I've done with anything overhead in a long time, so subbed with 8 kg. Not taxing but my shoulder got tired very quickly. It's still pretty weak.
14:50 (?)
The site looks great Sam!!
Same WoD as Avery, sub 12Kg KB as I am a wimp-
~14:32
Felt good and not nearly as difficult as that Swings, slams and squating box jump WOD the last rest day. If there is a next time on this WoD, I should definitely push up to the Rx weight.
Run home (~3 miles) was 22:48 and not the most efficient path ever.
Run to Melissa's apt. after I grabbed my stuff (~2 miles) 16:32. Both of these with a ~12 pound pack on.
