The new site looks GREAT!!

Alison you were right this is a much slicker, leaner black box look.

Website looks great! Took my first trip to the cardboard box yesterday -- it's true what they say, not a bad trip at all. I actually got there from 119th & 3rd faster then I used to make it to the old location.

Loving the new site! Cardboard box looks good, too bad my passport isn't valid for that zip code ;)

THIS PLACE HAS BEEN AROUND FOREVER AND THE STEAK IS SUPPOSED TO BE GREAT AND THE ATMOSPHERE FUN. PLUS THOS OF US ON PALEO HAVE PLENTY TO EAT. THE ITIALIAN PLACES BASICALLY ONLY WANTED TO DO A PRICE FIXE INVLOVLING PASTA PASTA AND MORE PASTA.

Moon- On the way home from the Box last night I ran into (almost literally) a guy with SCA heavy fighting gear. He said they have practice in Mccarren Park from 7-10 every Tuesday. Would you be interested in checking that out next week after the WOD?

Quick question, are there 2 non-beginner classes tonight or just one @ 7 at the Cardboard box? I'm hoping to get there after my flight this afternoon. I've been in Winston-Salem, NC the past few days where the hotel's idea of a fitness center is 3 treadmills, 3 ellipticals, and a scale.

Non-beginner classes are 7:00 at the Box (with me) and 6:30 in Central Park (I believe with Mike).

Beginner class is 6:00 at the Box.

Kurt - oh yes, I know about McCarren Park and I'm happy to go with you as watching SCA fighting is always fun. Hell, I'd be happy to walk a few people over there so they can fully appreciate the nerddom.

[So why haven't I been going? The main issue for me - ignoring my embracing of this CrossFit hobby - has been one of equipment. 1) My armor is in sad shape. 2) My armor really doesn't fit me that well anymore (damn Zone!), 3) Because of 1 and 2, I do not have a strong mental drive to hump my armor down 5 flights, to and through the subway and out to the park...and then back. And because of 3, I have not focused on gathering the necessary armor improvement financial allocations. Yes, the "catch-22" is visible to me.]

Brendan, there's a Crossfit affiliate in Winston-Salem (http://www.crossfit247.com) in case you find yourself back there. Why in the world were you in Winston-Salem anyway? The only thing to do there is go to the mall, and even that's pretty crappy ;)

Moon- funny thing is that the guy I spoke with didn't have any armor, just a polearm and shield. Maybe it is a lighter form of practice, not full on fighting? Either way, definitely interested in checking it out.

Martin, I was in Winston-Salem for work. Wanted to check out the affiliate but just didn't have time.

after I DL the 200 (and the two guys tell a third guy waiting for my bar that "she is deadlifiting! no girl here does that!") the third guy says to me
"-is that your max?"
I said yes.
he says "you know-you should REALLY get WEIGHTLIFTING GLOVES (showing me his --like I am brain dead) -they are very helpful in stabilizing the bar in your hand so your grip is good."

I said "oh, no, see we are not ALLOWED to use gloves" (like at our mystery cult)
"we just have to use THESE"-and I pointed to my callouses.
he said "oh-well I don't think I could do this without the gloves"

Tyler was there with a client and gave me a mini Rippetoe DL session. He also witnessed a man about 300lbs wearing a tank top that said FAT PIG. front and back of tank top. just in case you didn't get the message.

couldn't do max deads at riverbank due to a very sore lower back. i need a vacation and a massage, badly.

i did the holds in 30 sec on 1 min rest. i hadn't done handstands in a long time. i have finally befriended the "clerk" at riverbank who, after asking me for my card said "you're in late today". i figured he was taking notice of my schedule, so i should be nice. amazing how if i were a man, he would have taken notice of my work out and asked me about that instead, or not at all. i am consistently amazed at how aware i am in "normal" gyms that i am a woman. luckily, nobody has asked me why i don't wear gloves. i can't answer that question politely.

though, one time when i answered with my usual "gloves are for pussy's" and explained that it's natural to have calluses because when we were cavemen we didn't wear gloves to protect our hands, he responded with "well, then you wouldn't wear shoes either" while pointing at my 100th pair of new shoes. blah.

those are strictly for decoration!

Quick make up workout today. My globo gym is pretty tame, apart from the fact that nobody seems to be lifting anything heavy (even on the bench press) and I'm the only one who uses kettlebells to do something other than bicep curls. (bonus points for having KB's at all, however)

OHS: 95x3, 115x3, 115x3. Definitely not a max, but the whole bringing the bar back down on my neck thing just isn't comfortable. Oh, to dump a bar!

Im thinking of hitting up the cardboard box tomorrow too. I work in the evening but I should be able to go the 1230 class. Good thing I didnt do deads today as I needed my posterior chain for work. Lots of lifting. These people at this party were drinking like it was their last day on earth. We went through about 6-7 cases of wine in 3 hours. About 75 to 100 guests.

Wasn't feeling confident enough to do 55# DBs. Chest-slap push ups went to failure real fast. Just to get by, I was counting reps where only one hand's thumb was merely grazing my chest.

Also tried sotts presses for the first time using very light DBs. I'm going to need one of you guys to help me out there on form.

If I have enough energy maybe some gymnastics practice (L-sits, levers, tuck planches?) before bed time.

First ever heavy deadlift workout. 205 X5, 215 X3, 225, 235, 285(f), 275, 275(f), 275, 275(f).

Got a lot of good instruction on form, which I suck at, and another lesson on why I need to stretch more. I am almost too inflexible to get into the proper start position. Sad.

Allison- Don't stress about the non-PR. You said you are strict zoning, so you are probably just dropping weight and slowing your strength growth. Try calculating the PR based on percentage of body weight and it might make you feel a little better. Good luck and I hope you are enjoying California. God knows we could use some of that weather here.
