Rest day on the main site, but we never rest at the Black Box. Come on down and find out what we've got going on.
Gut reactions
More convicted felons allowed to enter Marines, Army
In lean times, biotech grains are less taboo
On honor and Murph
Water torture

Sorry for this off topic rant but I'm in love with crossfit!
I'm interested in joining. I've been doing crossfit since january and have fell in love with its philosophy, style and variation and with any fellow crossfitters. In truth I've been having thoughts about doing whatever I have to to open up my own place but seen that you guys already have a place open. I thought instead of making competition with friends why don't I give everything I got to make your place even better. I'm 20/m and currently in college for pre-med. I want to relate with crossfitters in NYC and also work with you guys. I want to learn the trade and start at the bottom if I have to volunteering or doing anything you guys need help with. Again I congragulate you guys for pursuing your passion and helping people out this way and would like to join the team.
Rajib - Getting started is easier than last year's "Box"-themed trend:
Step 1: Come on down to the Box.
That's pretty much it. And since tonight (6 pm) offers the only weekday Beginner's Class, it's a great time to meet the instructors, fellow CrossFitters and check things out for yourself in sweatier detail!
Not exercise related, but I found out today I got my H1-B Visa approved today! So I can stay in the USA for another 3 years!! So happy right now :)
Yea thanks moon I noticed that beginner's class, I was thinking about it. I have a class at 8 but since this class is only an hour I think I can make it.
*Only* an hour ;)
I'll make sure to remind you of that later.
hey, this is paul from tues-th elements that recently finished. am planning on coming to 6:45 class today, is this cool? talked to keith about it on last day of elements but not since. can't make 6pm unfortunately
Yay, Sam! 36 more Friday Rest Day Dinners!
Come on in Paul. We'll figure something out when you get there.
Just read this on the PM regarding hand placement for the Snatch and thought it was interesting:
"To determine hand placement for the snatch, adjust the grip until the bar hanging at arms' length rests in the crease of the hips. To check this placement, lift a knee - if the bar moves up, the grip is too narrow."
for snatch grip you can also judge hand width based on the bar height above your head. It should be 6-8" above the top of the head when your arms are locked out. For me it's just about on my him crease
A few questions:
1) What did the morning and afternoon classes do today?
2) Will the old format for the site come back? I don't like change, this is harder to read, and I just plain don't like it!!!
afternoon class did scott's mom
i had a few saves-one of which included having the barbell fall right on top of my head. BUT IT DIDNT HIT THE FLOOR!!
it only did that when it came time for the push jerks bc by then I was absolutely certain someone from the first round had snuck back and removed both of my shoulders.
first time doing it. should have used 42lb but as Allison said-at least I didn't give up (pathetic I know)
52lb
20,20,20
7, 13, floor
Elizabeth did like over 100 back squats. insane! u go girl.
Geez Michelle! Is the barbell ok???
Really though - I hope I can take your demonstrated willingness and ability to post to the CF blog as a sign that you are in an unbrain-damaged state. Just remember what Pat said about fails at the cert. (Hopefully I don't have to ask if you remember the cert...)
i recall the cert-mostly the tire and the elegant desserts-before they slid onto the floor. though i have no idea what pat said about the fails. i was too busy convincing myself it was not ben stiller training us.
what did he say?

Visions of the next Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson/CrossFit movie are now running through my mind...

some fun xrays of my finger, safe for work, family
My current top three predictions for the next cycle:
"JT"
21-15-9 reps of:
Handstand push-ups
Ring dips
Push-ups
"Murph"
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run
"Nasty Girls"
3 rounds for time of:
50 Squats
7 Muscle-ups
135 pound Hang power cleans, 10 reps
Michelle - In a conversation about how to scale up workouts properly, Pat said he generally feels he was successful if he gets a Fail during one of the lifts. If he does not - if he lifts everything completely - then he does not know if he was truly working up against his capacity.
Brett - That's scary, man. So glad it's not worse!
My prediction:
Cindy
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Squats
As many rounds as possible in 20 minutes
Helen
400m run
1.5 pood kb swings x 21
12 pull ups
Tabata Something Else
Complete 32 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest where the first 8 intervals are pull-ups, the second 8 are push-ups, the third 8 intervals are sit-ups, and finally, the last 8 intervals are squats. There is no rest between exercises.
I think its going to be Cindy as well
...tomorrow that is. I do not trust my predictive power beyond that.
Scott's Mom (70lb)
Overhead - 19
Front - 21
Back - 91
Press/Push/Jerk attempt #1 (70lb) - 16
Press/Push/Jerk attempt #2 (55lb) - 19
Pullups - 55
Scott's mom left me walking funny.
nice third digit,Brett looking good. How the hell did you do that?
moon-it sounds familiar-and makes sense. seems i have been working to my full capacity a lot recently. i have dropped the bar oodles of times these past few weeks.
well guess 42lb would have been the wrong choice after all.
all the lunchtime crew was amazing. Holly-was super to see you again.
Scott's Mom:
95 lb. Overhead/Front/Back
9/16/42 = 67 reps
95 lb. Press/Push/Jerk
7/3/7 = 17 reps
Afterwards I got my first muscle-up! George, thanks for the pointers.
Awww Hari, that triplet should be named "The Three WODS that Justin sucks the most at"...
Didn't someone mention there would be an update on possible new space?
Any news?
Justin, that would be justice for all the burpies you put us through. :)

Rumor around the mill is that a lease has been made up for a new space. I think that's safe to post since it was announced in tonight's class.
WHERE IS THE NEW SPACE?
OH AND ITS ANGIE TOMORROW.
scott's mom
7,6,5 95lbs
