Did a bastardized workout today at the gym. Ran 5k, then attempted to do the previous two days' workouts. I've come to the conclusion that I really can't count.
Did something like 5 x 8 shoulder presses @ 40 lbs - couldn't figure out how to lower the pegs on the cage, so I used cruddy light preloaded bars (thus the higher reps, was beat by the last two sets).
Then moved on to back squats, 5 x 5, using the most enormous bar (I found myself quite comical). I don't have any idea what it weighed, but I added about 30 lbs to it when all was said and done.
hey everyone, here's a different kind of post.
i'm being removed from my apartment by my insane landlord and neeeeed a place to live at least for a while. if anyone knows of any sublets or shares or what have you please please please let me know.
Speaking of bastardized workouts, my globo gym isn't 1RM-weighted-pull-up-friendly (am I missing something or does an 80lb d-bell hanging between the shins really hurt?) so I did some other stuff to "target the back and bi's", since this three day cycle is as close as CrossFit gets to a split routine. :)
warm-up: 135lb Hang clean+push-jerk x1x5
- Negative 1 arm pull-ups (pull-up with both arms, let go of one, try not to plummet down) L/Rx1x5
-Barbell row: 135x5, 155x1, 165x1 (not quite to chest), 155x3
Final note: clapping pull-ups on a knurled bar: not a good idea.

So, take 2- Sucks Brendan, I would try looking at the Columbia or NYU dorms, they are probably opening up in a 2-4 weeks as the semester ends. Will also keep an eye out. Also, as someone who practiced a little in housing court, it is really tough to evict a residential tenant, even a non-paying one, until they have somewhere to go. Just because a residential landlord says GTFO, doesn't actually mean a whole lot legally, espeically if you are still paying rent. NYC housing courts are very tenant friendly. Good luck.
Hey Crossfitters, I am a 40 yo married man and an avid crossfitter. Some time in the next month, I will begin commuting to NYC from Boston during the week and i will be looking for a place to crash. If anyone has or knows of rooms or apts for rent, please let me know 617-283-4033
Jon S. Nice work on all the lifts, but 12kg+20lb (46.4lb) is heavier than 16kg+5lb (40.2lb). In fact, 12kg+10lb is a tad heavier than 16kg. What happened? :)
Nice article Brett. I wanted to get a pair of five fingers last year when I saw some on a guy I went rock climbing with. They are cool and look really comfortable, but I don't think I can justify the cost for something that won't completely replace my athletic shoe. Has anyone tried them? What did you think?
Taking just a few Ibuprofen is keeping all the swelling down. I can walk ok, but still have the crutches. My fingers don't hurt, but the splints make it awkward to do stuff like pullups, pushups. I've been meaning to come in and try some ring dips
I am stuck and work and trying to devise a method to do weighted pullups using my files that I still have to work on as weights and using my door frame as the pullup bar. I hate work.
Pos... I mean Crossfit running method out at the pier tonight. Worked on drills and then did 3 200 meter run and 3 600 meter runs. Great work out there tonight everyone. Starting to feel it coming along. Thanks Brian squared!
If you're desperate, I have a sofa bed in my relatively spacious living room that could be lived on. I've also got an extra bedroom, but my current roommate isn't moving out until the first week of June. I'm in Clinton Hill / Bedstuy, right next to Pratt. Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested -- samanthaorme at gmail dot com.
I live in Nyc (Queens) and have been doing crossfit since Jan 2nd and I love it! I've been following the main site but would like to relate with people here seeing how we're from the same city and hopefully I can meet some of you here or even start doing WOD's in the black box. 2 questions:
1. I'm going to start Kung-Fu and I was wondering if increased flexibility from that art will make me more prone to injury during heavy lifts on some of the crossfit WOD's since my muscles will be more 'loose'?
I can't offer any scientific proof, but my anecdotal evidence suggests that being more flexible does not make you more susceptible to injury, it simply means that you have a greater range of motion along which to build strength. The other side of that, however, is that your max weight for any exercise becomes the maximum amount of weight that you can safely handle through your *complete* range of motion. Attempting to lift more weight than you can handle is what will injure you.
Done with bells and plates hanging off belt w/ minimal kicking. Although one day I'm going to have to try this kipping in a vest.
BTW - I was in PR territory at the 3rd rep. Back in July, I was tying 1 lb weights to my shoes just to break past bodyweight if only symbolically. Today I watched Liz stuff a couple of those same 1lb weights in her back pocket and get some. I look forward to seeing what potentials she and others will fulfill in just a few months time.
ahhh, I did this yesterday!

mildly interesting article about feet, shoes, walking. Kind of rambles on and on, but there is pic of the new Nike Free 5.0 on page 4.
That sucks, Brendan. I'll keep an eye out.

Did this for the second time in two days. Arms were feeling over-trained and sore.
Did 6 of sets, got up to 24kg then stopped there. Did some random kettlebell work afterwards.
