Complete as many rounds in twenty minutes as you can of:
65 pound barbell Thruster, 15 reps
21 Jumping pull-ups
Post rounds completed to comments.
Set-up so that your pull-up bar or rings about nine inches below your max reach and jump vigorously for each rep. Count only the reps where you go from full arm and shoulder extension to chin over the bar/rings.
Remember Swing A Ring this weekend. Also De la Hoya vs. Mayweather. Cinqo de Mayo. Reserve your spot for the Steve Cotter seminar!
"The interesting thing is that everybody really already knows this, because there are few examples in life that don’t follow the basic rules of the universe, the ones that dictate the behavior of everything. One of the most basic of those rules is that, with the exception of the occasional lottery winner, you pretty much get out of an effort what you put into it. We’re all quite familiar with this reality, although we are often willing to believe people who tell us otherwise, about exercise and about life. The sooner everybody—both halves of the population—accepts the fact that effective exercise is more like training for athletics and less like lying around on the floor, more about performance and less about appearance, the sooner it will be understood that women really don’t need their own figure salon."
From Mark Rippetoe's article in the May CrossFit Journal.

"Thrusters? oh that should be fun" she says with a snarky grin...
CrossFit: Relying on the mind to determine physical limits makes as much sense as relying on the body to do long division.

Just got word from Customer Service that I'm in for the Portland Cert!
yes!!!! nice one hari.
does anone wanna go in on a hotel out in portland?
Anyone read this? Thoughts? While I do not think CF allows one to hit the same rest interval valleys to get those heart rate deltas, I would suspect that the varied exercises we do in a WOD shifts the work to different muscle groups to gain a similar positive "flushing" effect, yes? RE: the nytimes article.
It's great that science is trying to catch up to what we do, but science (especially exercise science) is sadly very far behind. They set mediocre goals, test mediocre people and get mediocre results. As Rippetoe said, the only sure way to look like an athlete is to train like one. Worrying about your max heartrate and other such nonsense will insure mediocre results.
Anybody that has been doing CrossFit or any solid, well thought-out exercise program will notice that these article merely confirm what they have already proven true for themselves. Anybody that is shocked by these articles clearly hasn't been exercising hard enough and probably hasn't had any great results in a while.
6rds + 3 (Sub 55lbs)
Was in the last heat of the last class (ambient O2 level in the room was thereby suspect). Was very encouraged by the folks who had stayed behind from various heats of the day to both push and cheer our group on to go further/harder as well as watchdog our form.
Oh - and Court, "You're Gonna Get Yours" was a great pick!
